Movie Review: Fun gentle romp
Summary: 5 Stars
I don't remember actually seeing this in the theater when it came out but I had seen bits and pieces on TV over the years and thought I would enjoy seeing it uncut. I must admit that I really found it charming and fun, touching in many ways but played with a lot of broad humor. Not too thrilled seeing Jack Lemmon's bare butt, but the scene played well and was important to the film. I will probably dig this out now and then to watch again. The outdoor scenes are beautiful and the cast is excellent.Movie Review: at last

For me - an Austrian - at last this movie is available on dvd. Me and my wife have been loving this picture for years. It's so innocent an so many hidden comedy, that meanwhile I could see Avanti every week and enjoy it over and over again. This Wendell Armbruster character ist simply genius. And what's even more genius ist the part of Carlo Carlucci , the Hotel-Director. Everyone who loves a romantic movie mixed with humor and good acting - buy this one.

Movie Review: Huge and Pleasant Surprise

Had never heard of this movie title before seeing it on television. Absolutely wonderful, and perhaps the 2nd or 3rd best movie ever made, and certainly the best comedy. (never rate a #1 as that brings too much discussion). The original reviews said it was too long. Yes it was 2 1/2 hours but was absorbing and not too long in my opinion. The character actors (all of them really) were over the top.Movie Review: Fantastic!

This movie is on my all time favorites list. Jack Lemmon is at his bumbling best while Julier Mills is so sweet and funny, you'll fall in love with her too. Take note of the swim sequence. You'll roll with laughter. I saw this movie when it came out in the 70s in the theater. Loved it then, love it even more now. Every time I watch it, I laugh even more. "Avanti" is one of Jack Lemmon's funniest movies he has made. The scene on the train from Rome to Naples having a cup of coffee is truly so funny because it is true. On my first trip to Italy and having my first cup of coffee I reacted exactly as Jack did; which is why I have my coffee black now. Anybody that has traveled to Italy will relate to this and have a big laugh.
