Movie Review: Solid movie
Summary: 5 Stars
This highly personal movie focuses on three generations of a family, the first generation which immigrated to America. The setting is in the 50's, and the film is pretty nostalgic. The shot of the immigrant arriving on the fourth of july is one of the most beautiful scenes ever filmed. The film does well with showing the problems of the time. From the pursuit of the american dream, to the disillusionment of a tight family unraveling. Fine perfomances by all, including Aidan Quinn, Kein Pollak and a young Elijah Wood. But the most moving of all is done by Armin Mueller-Stahl. A great film.Movie Review: A Movie Like Hollywood Used to Make

This is an outstanding film -- a positive film -- just like Hollywood used to make. When I say "positive" I don't mean it's all peaches and cream and pollyanna. I mean it is, in the end, a very uplifting film. You've seen this film many times -- an immigrant family developing over the generations in a new country -- the U.S. Accordingly, it has all the joy and sadness that you see in any family, but the filmakers here have told the story with a brilliant touch of artistry and mastery. I know this will be one of the very few films I will watch over and over.Movie Review: Seriously- my favorite movie of all time.

I've watched hundreds of movies and this is my favorite. It especially spoke to me as I completely agree with the subtle commentary of the movie- that TV and cars/suburbs have profoundly eroded our American culture- and our family culture.
I loved the music, the message, and the little touches. Anyone can create an action-packed big drama flick. What Levinson did here was put together an entertaining movie created from the subtleties of relationships and lives past, which is a much greater challenge.

I only heared about Avalon in Febuary 2004, by reading reviews on amazon. Let me just say that if you by this DVD you will not be disapointed. This movie has a great story line, the actors are fantastic, and the movie hasnt dated one little bit. This movie has everything from the very funny parts, to the tearjerker parts. The movie is a real rollercoster ride. But one The whole family would be sure to enjoy. I highly recomend that everone should see this movie at least once.Movie Review: If you like Quality movies..

This movie is great. I first saw it over 10 years ago, and I have not forgotten it. It's a fantastic movie about how times change, how the little things in life make a big difference and how families change, grow, seperate.etc.
I love how it reflects the past and captures lazy summer days, bickering but loving families, grandparents out on the porch and old people who refuse to accept the new..it's a great movie!
