Movie Reviews of Auntie Mame

Movie Review: Live Live LIVE - Auntie Mame is a CLASSIC Hollywood Romp and Inspiration for Every Woman
Summary: 5 Stars

Even back in college at Smith, the seniors made reference the faux book which Mame was writing in their Senior Last Will and Testament to Rest of the Dorm when they cited the phrase, Live, Live, LIVE!

Auntie Mame was originally a Broadway show, with Rosalind Russell as the original and defining actress to play the role of Auntie Mame. 1970s Game Show Fans will recognize Agnes Guch, Peggy Cass. FTroup fans from the 1970s TV show comedy will recognize Forrest Tucker not realizing he started as a film actor.

Auntie Mame is one of my all time favorite movies, and YES, I had to OWN it not just rent it periodically from Netflix. When I am in a relationship and want to qualify the man as a Life Partner, are we aligned in our Life Values, we trot out and watch "Auntie Mame" as a discussion point around the kind of stimulating and FUN kind of Life I desire to live.

What about you?

How has Mame inspired you?

Movie Review: Live! Live! Live!
Summary: 5 Stars

I couldn't wait until this movie came out on DVD. And when it did I just had to buy it. I was not disappointed in my purchase. The DVD quality picture and sound sure made this a better movie to watch.

Rosalind Russel was superb, and very believable in character.

Eventhough this movie was origanlly released in the 1950s, the humor is still funny today. I had first seen this movie as a little girl (although not too long ago:) and it is still one of my favorites. However, now I have a perspective of an adult watching the movie and now I understand more of the humor. I am referring to the vocabulary building scene between young Patrick and Auntie Mame, as a girl of 6 most if not all the words I didn't understand. And my mother didn't want me to understand, not until I got much older of course:)

I never get tired of watching this movie. And this is a wonderful addition to any DVD collection, especially if you love classic comedies.

Movie Review: One of my favorite DVDs
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this as soon as it came out on DVD. I just got around to reviewing it.

The sound is not as great as I'd like but it is a must have.
Image quality is stunning. This movie makes me wish I had a huge tv and not just a 36".

This is one of the best written films. You will watch again and again. My fiancee doesn't normally watc older films. He has seen this one over and over. He will start reading or playing on the pc and always sets it aside to watch one more time with me. You can't help yourself. That is the best praise I can think of.

Buy this dvd. I can't think of anyone who would dislike it. Seriously. It was a hit play and a hit movie.

If you like old movies and this one try "the Women" on DVD. Not as broad of an appeal. But the same quick wit and same sort of humour. And Rosalind Russell, Norma Shearer, and Joan Crawford too.

Movie Review: The Only Mame for Me
Summary: 5 Stars

I remember watching this movie as a child falling in love with Rosalind Russell from the very first time, in her role as Mame. Who doesn't want a slightly whacky, eccentric aunt? I love this version of Mame, and it's the only one I own. However, my mother prefers the Lucille Ball version, and when we decided to watch Mame together, she wants her way, and I want mine. Rosalind Russell is the only Mame as far as I am concerned, and she plays the role well. It was made for her, and for her it will always be. This is one of my favorite lines from the movie!

Mame: Oh Agnes! Here you've been taking my dictations for weeks and you haven't gotten the message of my book: Live!
Agnes: Live?
Mame: Yes! Live! Life's a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death!
(..)

This is a movie the whole family will enjoy!

Movie Review: FRESH & FUNNY AS EVER.....
Summary: 5 Stars

I am happy to declare "AUNTIE MAME" is fine on DVD. This delightful romp is letterboxed but no matter. It looks and sounds perfect anyway. The fabulous Rosalind Russell shines like a diamond tiara as "Mame"---a role she was born to play and the supporting cast is sterling. This is a treasure to be savored again & again for the many hilarious vignettes chronicling her relationship with her orphaned nephew as he grows up under her unorthodox tutelage. We should ALL have an Auntie Mame in our lives and to finally have this film on DVD is close enough for me. A gorgeous Technicolor extravaganza like they don't make anymore and as full of charm and brilliant dialogue as it is endless pleasure, "AUNTIE MAME" is HERE and this poor sucker won't be starving to death for genuine entertainment. Bravo to Warner Bros. for delivering this classic in fine form.
