Movie Reviews of August Rush

Movie Review: Music explained to the non-musician
Summary: 5 Stars

As a musician for 30+ years, one of the most difficult things to explain to a lay-person is what SOUL is. What HEART is. What musicians mean when they say they were filled up inside, or taken over by music. Watch the movie! Fantastic performances, excellent story line, August Rush is incredible. It immediately jumped to my Top-5 all-time, and I consider this the Wizard Of Oz of movies about music. PG-rated only because of slight thematic elements, it's still worth watching with kids who are old enough to understand real-world (these days, that's around 7). Watch the movie! You've heard the phrase "feel-good" movie before, but on the mountain range of feel-good films, this is Everest. At the summit. Watch the movie! I'm not going to break down the story, or rate the actors individually, or give anything away. I'll say the only 3 words that matter:

WATCH THE MOVIE!

Movie Review: Fairy Tale redefined
Summary: 5 Stars

Whoever said a fairy tale had to be animated and include magic, wizards, dragons and the like? Freddie Highmore sets us up for a fairy tale in the opening sequence, and we are given a whole new one. And it's certainly a breath of fresh air.

Evan (Highmore) was separated from his mother at birth and sent to live in a boys' home. He is considered a freak because he hears music in everything and believes his parents will come for him. He runs away and finally finds a way to put what he hears in his head on paper, and later on show, hoping two certain audience members will be listening. The music is the high point, as well as Highmore, Russell, and Rhys Meyers. I highly recommend the soundtrack as well.

Is the story believable? No, it's a Hollywood movie. Is it a run of the mill fairy tale? No. Welcome to the 21st century. Listen and enjoy the music.

Movie Review: Amazing and Miraculous
Summary: 5 Stars

First of all I have read a couple of other reviews and I don't think you need to write a synopsis of the whole plot line in a review. This might take away from discovering the magic of a film to someone who hasn't seen it yet. So that being said I will keep my review simple and to the point. I found this movie to be amazing and awe-inspiring!! I am a music teacher and I have always felt that music is my best friend. Someplace to escape to when the world around me was not so great. I do think that music connects us as human beings. It is a God given gift and like August I can find music and all kinds of noise from the chirping of birds to the hustle and bustle of a busy city street. If you believe in the power of music to bring people together than you must see this movie. It will lift you up and help you to have faith in a world where life is often times difficult.

Movie Review: A type of film that you so rarely see nowadays
Summary: 5 Stars

I could only say "wow" after seeing this film. August Rush is a highly beautiful film about a boy living in an orphanage. He absolutely adores everything that has to do with music and this passion of his takes him on a quest for the two aspects he misses the most in life: his parents and a fair chance to play and enjoy music. As for the acting, the sweet and sincere leading character gives an amazing performance. Still, it's the high quality melodies that make this movie really stand apart.

The following sentence heard in the film sums up it's main message: "Just listen!" This is a great piece of advice for everyone living in our stressed up world today. How often do we ignore or neglect all the gentle voices around us: the singing of birds, the sounds of wind and the expressed honest hopes and expectations of the people around us.

Movie Review: A Movie for the Imagination
Summary: 5 Stars

It disappoints me when I see reviews for movies like this that are full of complaints about sensationalism, and incredulity.
There are some movies where a heavy hand of reality is vital to it's success. But does that mean ALL movies need complete fidelity to reality? What a sad world it would be without the fantastic realms of existence awakened in the imagination. Think of all the movies that would never have been!
Of course it would it not only be improbable, but preposterous for the story told in August Rush to happen in reality. Who cares? Is that the point of the movie? Not at all! The point is to rouse our child-like imagination and to unleash potential and motivate us to dream.
I love this movie. I get lost in the story every time--always anxious down to the last moment if they will find each other in the end.
