Movie Reviews of AttilaMovie Review: ATTILA A MAN WITH A VISION, A MAN WITH A PASSION! Summary: 5 Stars
Attila, the incredible epic movie about Attila the Hun, made by the producers of THE MUMMY has unfortunately been somewhat forgotten. Though it did not get the recognition for the genius that it deserves, believe me when I say this film is amazing! ATTILA is rich with the acting talents of GERARD BUTLER, POWERS BOOTHE, TIM CURRY, SIMMONE JADE MACKINNON, and more. The costumes were so fantastic, the sets of Rome were true to life, in fact you feel like you are in Rome. They even employed the use of real soldiers to be soldiers in the Roman Army. Real Mounted Police and with their own horses were used to portray all of the soldiers on horseback. The musical score is intoxicating as it transports you into ancient Rome, and the Hun Empires. Though the story deviates slightly from the historical story of the real Attila, it actually brings up some very interesting speculations about how the real Attila the Hun really may have been in his personal life as well. The story of Attila takes you from his life as a young Hun boy who grows up to be one of the fiercest warriors, and then revered kings in world history. There has only been a hand full of men the world has ever seen with such passion and determination, enough to conquer and lead many nations. Attila king of the Hun Nation.
Gerard Butler's performance as Attila the King of the Huns, is as always, pure brilliance! The Scottish actor, (probably best known as the PHANTOM OF THE OPERA), cannot only act and sing, but expertly wields a sword while riding a horse with such adeptness that any real Hun would have been envious. In fact he did most of the horse stunt riding you see in the film himself. His commanding performance knows no depth and completely draws you into the ancient world where one man had a vision, a passion, and a driving force that almost crumbled the vast Roman Empire. I highly recommend this film as a teaching aid in the classroom. You will not be disappointed with this film!
Movie Review: Thoroughly entertaining - forget silly "inacuracy" argument Summary: 5 Stars
Having read many review on how inaccurate this film were, I decided that I'l have a go myself anyway. Being a fervent student of classical civilisation myself, I thought - that wasn't a bad film at all. I agreed that the film is not 100% accurate but not to the point that Attila had conquered the Roman Empire. The film did well to put all historical element together and added some "spice" that would make the film interesting to the general audience.
We all knew that Attila is not a handsome hunk, But try to put yourself in the director and producer perspective. Could you really find an actor of Attila description in the film industry. No, you couldn't even if you wanted to. I you want one you would have to import directly from Mongolia, and I doulbt that the Attila would speak at all during the entire film. Also, it is not economically viable to use any person as such, the film just won't sale. The film-makers are not trying to make a documentary. They are making films, and film suppost to by enjoy as novel, not histoy book.
I doulbt that the legend of King Arthur and his Knights as we know is historically accurate. Nor wizard do play quiddich!! The film "King Arthur" (2004), which base more along the line of historical account, is no better than any other "historical inaccurate" film before it. At the end of the film, my sister who have no interest whatsoever in ancient history asked me for some historical background and asked to borrow some book on the subject of Attila and the Roman Empire. I felt that the film-makers could say "mission accomplished".
Movie Review: attila, a barbarian? Summary: 5 Stars
Such a great movie! After this movie, I read a lot about Huns and Attila. Gerard Butler played the King of Huns very successfully. The movie also presents the nice portrait of Attila, much nicer than the roman historians told about him. Attila was named as a barbarian but he was one of the great leaders in the history and also a very intelligent king who brought the west Roman empire to end. One thing about Gerard; if he was looking a little bit Eurasian on his facial features like a Turkic man, he would be looking like a real Attila but however still his skin complexion, beard and moustache, long brown hair, his tall and strong muscular body reflected the Huns. West Huns were of mostly Turkic origin mixed later with North and Mid Europeans. Attila was adored by the people that he led, loved by women but became a victim of his Roman enemies who used his new wife to poison him. Attila in the reality, respected the Roman civilization but disrespected the dishonest society and conspiracies of Romans. That was one of the reasons that he did not destroy the city of Rome because of his respect to the civilization.(Shouldn't be called a barbarian because a barbarian would destroy the civilization,Rome). Also the movie needed much better crowd in the battle scenes (computer animations) as the battles happened between 100-400K soldiers. But we shouldn't expect a movie to fully reflect all the facts in the history. To my conclusion, it was a great movie!
Movie Review: One of the great epics of movie history. Summary: 5 Stars
A movie of overall splendour with a world class cast, where history, romance and thrilling battle scenes unfold before your eyes. The glory of Rome in her downward spiral takes on new meaning when Attila, played by Gerard Butler, in what I believe to be one of his best performances, comes on the scene. A great cast, each and every one bringing to life this masterful epic of rich history along with the pomp and ceremony of two entirely different cultures and civilizations. As a fairly new and up and coming great actor Mr. Butler more than held his own with many well known movie names. I predict great things to come for this young man and hope he gets the chance to play more epic character roles. With his great acting abilities he certainly brings this type of role to life with his dedication to becoming one with the character he takes on. A truly great movie, one I hope will become a classic, and well worth collecting and viewing. Even if you view history as boring stuff out of dull, dusty history books - this will bring an entirely different meaning to "history" at it's best. The special features is well worth a special mention as a must see addition to behind the scenes production, wonderful photography, hundreds of extras, including young, newly trained Asian army personell who took on the roles of Roman soldiers. I can't rate this DVD highly enough; of course, I love history and epic movies so maybe a little biased!
Movie Review: Attila - Excellent TV epic movie Summary: 5 Stars
Do you love films like Braveheart? Well, this is another great addition to the loosely history based battle epic movie genre. When I watch movies like this, I always wonder how they will make it different from past movies like Braveheart. Unlike Braveheart, Atilla the hun is not a nice character. He is an extreme womanizer, a warlord, and sometimes irrational. This makes it hard to cheer for a happy ending, because both sides are somewhat evil. Also unlike Braveheart, this movie is alot deeper in story. It's not just good guy versus badguy till one is dead. Usually the only TV movies I like are HBO movies, because they are the higest quality. This is a USA network film and it's one of the most impressive TV productions I have ever seen. The use of special FX to create Roman cities and giant armies are as good and better then some Hollywood films. Infact I didn't even know they used special FX till I saw the making of the film documentary "also contained on the DVD". The cast is also solid. casting=4.5 stars acting=4.5 stars ending=4.5 stars Directing and Editing=5 stars storyline=5 stars replay value=4 stars OVERALL= 4.58 stars out of 5 The movie starts out somewhat cliché, but gets better and better as the movie progresses...
