Movie Review: Amazing Four Hour Documentary Regarding Pearl Harbor Attack
Summary: 5 Stars
I thoroughly enjoyed this two set video series concerning the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. It helped me to more clearly understand how the Japanese military was able to carry out the plans set in motion a few years earlier. I had not realized that American intelligence was unaware of its ability to launch torpedoes from airplanes. This may have made the ultimate difference. And no, Franklin D. Roosevelt did not let the Japanese successfully attack our installations on Pearl Harbor simply to get the United States into the war. The consensus opinion was that Hirohito's forces would pick an easier target. I am sure that the vast majority of us living today would have committed the same mistake had we been in their shoes.
The final hour of this series involves a fictional discussion between Uncle Sam and History. I found it interesting how the participants went out of their way to assert that few Japanese-Americans were disloyal to their country. Their patriotism was repeatedly emphasized.
