Movie Reviews of As Good As It Gets

Movie Review: Astoundingly good
Summary: 5 Stars

This film has maybe the cleverist, smoothest, and fulfilling script of all time. The dialogue and the what you learn about the characters from the dialogue is unbelievable (Steinbeck but faster and lighter). The film as a whole is also delightful. Nothing but pure enjoyment here. This film can say and mean alot to anyone so stating one meaning is purposeless (and I'm not the kind of person who says that all the time). The only thing I disagree with with the reviews below is how many people said Kinear was better than Nicholson. Kinear was touching and graceful and yes should have recieved the oscar but Nicholson was pure genius. Just try to mimic what he did without looking like a jackass. He played one of the most difficult roles in history to perfection. I was never a Nichoslon fan until I saw this movie (the only other thing I saw him in was that piece of sh*t, A Few Good Men) but this performance compelled me to follow up one his acting and now I am convinced he is one the the greatest film actors ever.

Movie Review: FOR THE MELVIN UDALLS IN US AND AROUND US
Summary: 5 Stars

Jack Nicholson in prime form. What more needs to be said? A classic human-interest story of a bygone genre, As Good As It Gets also features marvelous performances by Helen Hunt, Greg Kinnear and Cuba Gooding, Jr.

What makes a movie like this draw us is that we all feel like we belong there. We all know a Melvin Udall or a Carol Connelly or a Simon Bishop and we relate to them. A movie's true greatness can and should be gauged by what it tells us about ourselves and As Good As It Gets speaks volumes. We see Melvin's miserable approach to things and how he changes when things really matter. Moreover, we recognize that if Melvin can change so can we.

As Good As It Gets will also speak differently to you depending upon your mood and experience. How it comes across today when the sun shines and all is well will differ considerably from how it makes you feel when it's rainy. Whichever the case may be, the movie will buoy you up.

A must for all Nicholson fans, As Good As It Gets will be a favorite.

Movie Review: What if this is as good as it gets? If so, I will take it!
Summary: 5 Stars

What do you get when you combine a Depressed-Homosexual, an Over-Protective-Single-Mother, and a Tactless-Homophobic-Obsessive Compulsive? Well, if it has superb acting and an original script, then it is "As Good as it Gets".

So what if the story is a stretch? So what if Jack Nicholson is, well, Jack Nicholson? This movie surprises and entertains throughout. Isn't that what they are supposed to do?

"As Good as it Gets" has a wonderfully original script. The three primary players gel into a perfect team. You never know what Nicholson will say next and this trait is found in all the characters of the story. My absolute favorite scene, is the "Hospital Scene." It is pure comic genius on a very human level.

Rent it, buy it, borrow it or steal it. But you have to see for yourself. You may just find yourself a new favorite "Romantic Comedy."

The DVD has the standard extras, complete with a commentary version. Missing however is the movie Trailer.

Movie Review: Forgot Just How Great This Film Really Is...
Summary: 5 Stars

This is by far the best romantic comedy I have ever seen, and I admit being a guy I haven't really seen that many. The thing that seperates this film from most is the power to make you bust out in laughter one second and wiping away tears the next. Jack Nicholson delivers my favorite performance of his career and deserved that Oscar, as did Helen Hunt in her best role. I truly think Greg Kinnear deserved the Oscar over Robin Williams in "Good Will Hunting." Jack was weirdly great, but Kinnear was so convincing as the soul of the movie, who helped mold others around him rather than changing himself or his past. Also, this movie has almost as many great quotes as Monty Python or the Princess Bride and thats really saying something. So, if you want to see an excellent movie for a nice romantic evening with someone special or if you just want to watch a movie that will have you cherishing it long after the fading bakery scene, buy this movie for the extremely worthy and reasonable price.

Movie Review: "You make me want to be a better man"
Summary: 5 Stars

"As Good as It Gets" is Funny, insigthful, romantic, ... the main plot involves the encounter of an artistic man in his fifties who suffers from severe obsessive-compulsive disorder with a morally-correct waitress in her early forties who's trying her best to care for her allergy-prone child and still maintain the prospect of some romantic life. The most appealing aspect of the movie is the realization that through a true connection with another person ('love') and/or the simple acknoledgement of an individual's humanity, one maybe empowered with the necessary inner-strength to overcome difficulties and neurosis that otherwise, he or she may never have had the courage or willingness to address. This movie is famous for the performance of both Helen Hunt and Jack Nicholson, including his line " You make me want to be a better man," which is a turning point in the movie when Jack's character undergoes a Self-realization that allows him to surpass some of his own limitations.
