Movie Reviews of Army of Darkness

Movie Review: Evil, Undead, Necronomicon...and Bruce Campbell's wise arse.
Summary: 5 Stars

Back in the day, a roommate brought this home on VHS. I had always avoided most zombie and Undead flicks, but this one sucked me in. Bruce Campbell takes himself so seriously, and the action is so wacky that the horrifying Undead creatures are not the main focus. Sure, I was pinching the seat a bit, but the humorous scenes were relief from the Insane Lovecraftian creatures.

The superhero was so smug and sure of himself that he inducted me into Zombie / Undead flicks, and I've always loved this Campy movie. This is one of those flicks that you can watch again and again. Also, if you can't get people to watch Undead films, this is a good initiation for your squeamish friends. I wouldn't start them off with The Evil Dead (Ultimate Edition).

Army of Darkness is one to treasure, and it is always good for laughs amongst fellow geeks. Bruce Campbell is a superhero for the geeks of the world, even as he gets his arse kicked by Liliputians.

Movie Review: Hail To The King Baby!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Evil Dead trilogy, think Evil Dead = genuine horror + low budget, Evil Dead II = horror + `comedic' moments + higher budget, Evil Dead III = comedy + high budget, its possibly the best way to look at the trilogy.

AOD is a classic film, well worth watching over and over again as it has:

Fantastic one liners? Check
Hero with chainsaw for hand? Check
Witch killing? Check
Gratuitous use of shotgun? Check
Bruce Campbell? Check
Love interest? Check
Good triumphing over evil? Check

It ticks all the right boxes and never leaves the viewer disappointed. I highly recommend this film, if you loved Dusk Till Dawn - AOD rivals it on the Macho Pimp Stud scale.

Not recommended if you are a horror junkie and are wanting shock value, this is not for you sir.

Coming back from the pub and I have the choice of reaching for Raging Bull or AOD, the chainsaw wielding great one will win every time...

Hail to the king, baby...

Movie Review: MMM..MMM GOOD....CAMPBELL'S IS MMM GOOD
Summary: 5 Stars

Sam Raimi's EVIL DEAD trilogy concluded with this over the top comedy thriller. In addition to having some great pre-CGI effects, the witty and delightful Bruce Campbell and some ingenious creative moments, ARMY OF DARKNESS nicely pays homage to some great classic novels and/or movies. We get "Gulliver's Travels"; "The Thing with Two Heads"; and of course, a tribute to Ray Harryhausen's ingenious skeletons in "7th Voyage of Sinbad" and "Jason and the Argonauts." There is kind homage also to the Three Stooges in some of the slapstick tomfoolery that occurs. The scene of the skeletons marching into the castle with skeleton head drums; bagpipes and trumpets is priceless. Raimi earned his credentials on these three films, enabling him to go on to higher class films and of course the superb SPIDERMAN series. Gorgeously filmed and lit, ARMY OF DARKNESS is a marvelous movie; the theatrical ending is much more enjoyable that the Planet of the Apes one. Enjoy. I did!!!

Movie Review: Bruce Campbell, "B Movie actor of the decade"
Summary: 5 Stars

The Evil Dead series was a truely great series.

It may not be as popular as Star Wars or the now famous Lord of the Rings saga, but in the eyes of many, it's a trilogy to be treasured.

Ash (Bruce Campbell) has been through a lot, finally he gets to settle down to a new life, as an employee with S Mart.

He recalls his journey into another world.

His journey with the Army of the Dead, him strangling himself (you hafta see it to beleive it) and much, much more.

It has recently come to my attention that it's on DVD. Now, I havn't seen it on DVD, my review is just based on the core movie.

I heard there is an alternate ending, but why would you want to miss his famous final line, "Hail to the King baby"

5 out of 5 - I give it this high score, since it's been around a while, and still hasn't lost it's nostolgic feeling.

Movie Review: Don't mess with Ash!
Summary: 5 Stars

This, the best & third entry in the Evil Dead series, is an absolute blast! It's funny, exciting, scary, well acted, beautifully designed and choreographed, and, most of all, imaginative to the extreme!

Bruce Campbell is fantastic here (as usual), but here he's really allowed to excercise his funny bone, and man does he stretch (in more ways than one). You'll be laughing and cheering along with him the whole way through!

As for plot: Ash, our scrappy hero from the first two Evil Dead movies, is sucked through a dimensional vortex thingy (courtesy of Necronomicon, the demonic book of the dead) and finds himself lost in time...the middle ages, more specifically. Before you know it, he finds himself saving the kingdom and setting things right when the Necronomicon's evil minions, the army of darkness of the movies title, start causing trouble. Epic, silly gold!
