Movie Review: A good cheesy laugh

Although this film has been criticized for an excess of stereotyped characters and comedy that tries too hard at times, if the criteria for a good film is how it makes you FEEL, for me then this film is a complete success.
Although it is in the package of a light farce, there is a powerful undercurrent here of the need to be true to oneself in love. The main characters, Alex and April, (Trish Doolan and Maria Cina) had secretly been long term lovers but now find themselves preparing for April's wedding to her boyfriend Pauly, someone she is with because it is more socially acceptable. This is the wrong decision, as they and the audience will come to recognize. The story unfolds in so many surprising turns that the characters and the audience are challenged to yield to the ultimate fluidity of events and of romantic attraction. Conventions are questioned, partners change places, and at some point before too long nearly everyone, male and female, with a little help from some free-flowing wine, ends up dancing with the party's sexy Latin bombshell.
There is real power in the journey of Alex and April as they move out of a place of hiding to one of celebration and community, despite the constraints of religious backgrounds and the consternation of parents. All of this happens surprisingly easily during the course of the story, which happens with the feeling of being shot in real time. The romantic scenes are not of a graphic nature but there is an intimacy to them that sustains the central dynamic of the film -- that of the importance of honesty in relationship to self and others. These two people have the kind of connection that might make it possible, if they can be open about it, for the "world" to come around to meet them where they are, after all, because it is right for them and because it is good.
This is a movie with a cast of sometimes zany characters who ultimately come together in a community of spirit, and a joyful celebration of "true love," whatever form that may take. This film is sweet, uplifting, and fun in its approach to the topic of self-acceptance and coming out of the closet. Congratulations to the charismatic Trish Doolan, who stars as Alex, for the determination and talent to make this movie as writer, director, star and co-producer. It is a joyful trip for all.
Movie Review: April's Shower is a Refreshing, Fresh Film

"April's Shower" is a funny, moving, entirely believable film about the choice between what the heart desires and what society will accept. I would recommend this film highly to anyone with an open mind who likes good comedy (a rarity in Hollywood these days).
Basic synopsis: Alex has been asked to be the maid of honour at her friend April's wedding, and is in the process of throwing April her wedding shower. There's just one complication: Alex and April used to be lovers, but April left because she was afraid of coming out dating another woman. When Alex let's their relationship slip during the shower (in front of April's controlling Mother) things get surreal.
"April's Shower" is filled with funny, lively characters. It benefits from a well-written script, a capable cast, and a breezy and engaging pace. The Heathen Hippy gives it four fresh bouquets.
Movie Review: good chick flick with lots of laughs

Over all this movie was very funny. Yeah it was alittle over but it is a comedy so you don't really expect real life situtions. The way the characters are weaved together and the story is told is not your everyday coming out to your parents. It is a story of true love over coming impossible odds in a funny non in your face I am gay so deal with it way. It has very nice cross over appeal.Movie Review: Well done

If you are looking for sex, this is not the movie for you. There isn't any. However, if you like a lot of story lines going on at once, along with romantic comedy then this is a good flick. I think it to be very realistic with good lines and a cast that has very good chemistry. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
