Movie Reviews of Anywhere But HereMovie Review: Mothers & Daughters Summary: 4 Stars
After Natalie Portman's amazing performance in Zach Braff's Garden State, I had to see more of her work. In Anywhere But Here, she once again amazed me with her heartfelt and emotional performance. She is truly a wonderfully gifted actress, full of life and versatility, that manages to bring charm and innocence to any character she plays. I look forward to seeing more of her in the future.
Based on a novel by Mona Simpson, Anywhere But Here is an interesting character study about an eccentric mother and the unhappy daughter she is trying to make a star. Susan Sarandon is the perfect choice to play Portman's mother, an over-the-top, insecure woman trying to make it in Beverly Hills. She accompanies Portman well and brings life into an unlikeable woman.
Anyone who has ever been annoyed by or hated their mother so badly will be able to relate to this film. It's a universal topic and a very fun one to watch. The plot is formulaic and predictable, but the movie's interest is not in the plot, but in the brilliant performances. This is not a film for all tastes, but anyone who prefers characters over plot may want to give it a chance. I enjoyed it with my own mother.
Movie Review: Mother and Daughter re-define their relationship as they grow Summary: 4 Stars
Susan Sarandon is a perfect choice for this quirky, yet very human portrayal of a single-mom who lives in her own theatrical reality. Her daughter is the more mature of the two, played by a very green yet forceful Natlie Portman, and she has the unfortunate task of trying to find her own identity while keeping the pieces of her mother intact while they pursue her mother's quest for a life of glamour-even if said glamour is not exactly the usual definition of the word. This movie is all about self-exploration and being able to find yourself without losing the relationships already present in your life.
Movie Review: Real Life film Summary: 4 Stars
The movie can be slow in parts, but overall it is a very good movie because it shows that real life is not all sunshine and smiles.
The movie is about Adele and Anne August who leave there home in Wisconson and move to California. Over the four or five years the film depicts there are highs (not many) and more lows (such as Adeles nephew Benny dieing and her mother having a stroke) and alot of attitude for Anne about how much she does not like her mom and how she wishes that she were anywhere than where she was.
Movie Review: Has it's moments Summary: 4 Stars
This movie has a scene where Natalie P. hides behind a column in the aiport, while Susan S. (her Mother) is frantically looking for her. Natalie's character was verifying if her mother would care if she wasn't around anymore. I felt it was a good scene that really makes the film.
Movie Review: good movie, good picture quality, both WS and FS versions Summary: 4 Stars
I liked this movie, both the story and the actresses.
