Movie Review: Angelina learns some valuable lessons in a feature-length special

"Angelina Ballerina: The Show Must Go On [Christmas in Mouseland] is a 50 minute feature length special. It's Christmas time, and there is a special musical performance titled 'Cinderella Mouse and the Ugly Whiskers', in honor of Queen Seraphina. Unfortunately, Angelina loses the coveted part of Cinderella Mouse to Priscilla Pinkpaws and is given the role of Wicked Stepmouse instead. This is a great blow to Angelina and the little mouse throws a diva-sized tantrum, refusing to play her assigned role and stalking off in a huff. Ms Lilly [voiced by Dame Judi Dench] takes on the role instead but is later house-bound after an accident. The director of the show,grumpy Mr Operatski decides to call of the show, and Angelina learns to swallow her pride so that the show may proceed.
Angelina does have her bad moments in this series, and resorts to some bad behavior, but she always learns from her mistakes in the end. This is another wonderful production in the DVD series. There are some special features here such as a picture album, and also a read-along feature. The animation remains faithful to Helen Craig's beautiful illustrations, and on the whole, I'd recommend this to young aspiring dancers, preschoolers and up who love charming tales featuring lovable mice.
Summary of Angelina Ballerina - The Show Must Go On (Christmas in Mouseland)
It's Christmas, and Angelina is auditioning for the lead role in the musical extravaganza, Cinderella Mouse and the Ugly Whiskers. She is devastated when Priscilla Pinkpaws is chosen to play Cinderella and she is cast as the Wicked Stepmouse. Taking Miss Lilly's advice toe "think horrid" much too literally, Angelina storms off in a fit of a temper. Then a toboggan race goes wrong and it seems that the production will have to be cancelled. Realizing how selfish she has been, Angelina determines to sort things out because as every aspiring star knows The Show Must Go On!Angelina is a promising young ballerina with a sensitive ego and an unruly temper. It's not surprising, then, that Angelina's excitement over the upcoming Christmas dance production of Cinderella Mouse and the Ugly Whiskers quickly turns to fury when visiting composer and musical director Mr. Operatski casts Priscilla in the starring role of Cinderella, leaving Angelina to dance the role of Wicked Stepmouse. Taking Miss Lilly's advice, Angelina tries to "think horrid," but ends up acting so selfishly that Mr. Operatski dismisses Angelina all together and re-casts Miss Lilly as the Wicked Stepmouse. When Angelina unwittingly injures Miss Lilly, the entire performance is threatened. Can Angelina's newfound humility and good intentions save the production? (Ages 3-8) --Tami Horiuchi
