Movie Reviews of Andre Rieu - Live in DublinMovie Review: When Irish eyes are twinkling, keep yours peeled for the bull! Summary: 5 Stars
Is the bull corny or cute? Two guys are hoofing it in a costume, so you decide. But please, don't have a cow. Espana Cani is a really fun piece of Spanish pasodoble music and things are supposed to get LIVE-ly IN DUBLIN. Andre Rieu is a master at keeping his audience spellbound and delighted. They are at the edge of their seats when he promises a birthday gift for Uncle Paddy. No one expects a life-size "doll" - made in England, the Dutchman quips, but she's Brazilian - singing the Song of Olympia from the Tales of Hoffmann. As far as my little granddaughter is concerned, the Irish got their pot of gold with the bull and the doll. She also approves fully of charmed couples waltzing in front of the stage, until the Maestro pretends to lose his concentration and The Blue Danube abruptly stops flowing. He clearly cannot afford to fiddle around when he joins John Sheahan of The Dubliners in playing the wildly popular Irish Washerwoman. In terms of speed acceleration, it's the "bullet train" number in this very fun, yet elegant concert at The Point Theatre, a former train terminal in Dublin. I fell in love with Teun Ramaekers and his superb artistry on the flute. Like many of his fellow orchestra members, he dazzles with musical and comedic talents. I know Beethoven approved, because he showed up with his Ode to Joy. LIVE IN DUBLIN has the feel of a satisfying family reunion. The more I attend, the more I identify with those smiling Irish and Dutch eyes. If you are a classical-music elitist and smell a rat, this Mozart nut gives you permission to jump ship. Why else would Andre Rieu play the TITANIC song, "My Heart Will Go on"?
Movie Review: waltzing in Ireland Summary: 5 Stars
Andre Rieu puts his treasured 1665 Stradivarius to good use in the marvelous concert from Dublin, which is full of great music and a lot of humor. The audience is obviously enjoying the evening, and if you like waltzes and lovely melodies, you will too.
Guest artist is the wonderful Irish violinist John Sheahan, who does his beautiful "Marino Waltz", and John and Andre have a grand time with "The Irish Washerwoman".
Approximate running time is 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Movie Review: Fun For The Whole Family Summary: 5 Stars
The traditional view of a symphony performance is one of a stuffy conductor and a stone-quite audience. Well, Andre Rieu will have none of that!Andre conducts and plays violin (both superbly). Throughout the performance he will make jokes and interact with the audience. During The Blue Danube, he encourages the audience to get up and waltz. The orchestra is the Johann Strauss Orchestra and you will immediately notice the beautiful waltz gowns on the ladies. Wonderful music and some amazing vocals round out an amazing program. I first saw part of this on PBS with my daughter and father (4 and 82 respectively). They both loved it. I immediately ordered this DVD and watched it with my daughter. Sever tracks into the DVD my wife forbid me from watching when anyone was trying to sleep. She heard my laughter from the other side of the house. This was because of something done during a Spanish bullfighting number (you'll know the piece). Suffice it to say, if more symphonies performed like this then classical music would be far more popular among young people. Watch this one. Now.
Movie Review: Live in Dublin Summary: 5 Stars
This latest addition to our collection should have arrived by Christmas, but on contacting Amazon they gave it until 25th January to arrive. My contact and shipping number disappeared off my computor so I went ahead and re-purchased. Although I had lost 3 of his DVD's in that particular order I took the plunge and re-ordered. So far only 'Live in Dublin' has arrived, but hopefully the others will over the next day or so. With all that expense was it worth it?
Fantastic, a wonderful evenings entertainment, which like all the others of his DVD's we have, we enjoyed this one to the full. It doesn't matter what music he plays on his DVD's it is always of the highest quality, and although the Irish were a bit stiff to start with, they certainly weren't at the end.
What is so remarkable and uplifting about Andre Rieu's DVD's is that the young enjoy them just as much as the old. With the present trash on the pop scene that is so popular at the moment, Andre Rieu is like a breath of fresh air. Long may he reign.

Movie Review: THE BEST OF THE BEST Summary: 5 Stars
I now own seven Andre Rieu DVD's...in his earlier works the orchestra had no backup singers or vocal soloists. In the Dublin program, there was great singing and well as two outstanding vocal solos. Also, the comedic "bull chasing the lady in red" was pure delight. The marvelous bit in all of the DVD's is that the audience is having a grand time listening and participating in the show. Another plus in this program was the superb use of the flute, piccalo and Irish tin whistle. It was just grand. Andre Rieu and his orchestra are scheduled for a concert in Anaheim, CA in December 2007 with ticket sales ranging from $125 to $175 each. By May 1st, the concert is already sold out in an auditorium that seats thousands of people. So many people having so much fun at an all classical music concert is quite remarkable. And that is Andre Rieu.
