Movie Reviews of And the Band Played On

Movie Review: Excellent Movie
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a wonderful, fact based movie about the initial public awareness of HIV. The acting is superb and the cast list reads like a WhosWho of Hollywood. I use this movie for one of my college classes in order for students to see how callous political maneuvers in the 1980s delayed the recognition and testing for HIV, and as a result, many innocents died.

Movie Review: An excellent reference to how AIDS got started.
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great movie to learn how our government didn't even acknowledge the AIDS virus, as well as, the research fund for the virus was extremely limited. Sounds like a government biological experiment to me. There's a book by William Cooper called "Behold A Pale Horse" read it and see what he knew about the virus. Enjoy.

Movie Review: Tragedy and Politics
Summary: 5 Stars

Aside from a wonderful presentation of the tragedy that is AIDS, it gives a chilling depiction of the politics attendant upon the health care policies of the nation. Evidently, the fact is that no matter how many people die, the bottom line (money and greed) are paramount in this country. Does this resonate today (2009)?

Movie Review: The Band Is Still Playing
Summary: 5 Stars

This film, in my opinion, is a fantastic telling of the behind the scenes of the discovery and the eventual research of the AIDS disease and virus. It is based upon the book of the same name by Randy Shilts, and it is wonderfully acted and a superb telling of a true and heart-wrenching story. I reccommend this to anyone.

Movie Review: See how it began
Summary: 5 Stars

It's been 25 years and so much in the gay community has changed and so much hasn't. A quarter century ago it seemed unthinkable that Love and Death could ever co-exist. Now we live in the midst of an uneasy truce. See this film and see how the first generation dealt with the unthinkable.
