Movie Reviews of And the Band Played On

Movie Review: This is a true "HORROR FLICK"
Summary: 5 Stars

Not only important in the understanding of AIDS, this film uncovers the mind set of society and government on the subject during the '80's. The film (and book) reveal that societies values and governmental lack of action allowed the epidemic to rise from 3 fatalities in 1981 to the present 40,000,000 who have either died or are infected.
This film should be part of the Health curriculum in all schools

Movie Review: Still amazed
Summary: 5 Stars

Anyone under the age of 30 should watch this movie. The movie is powerful, and moving. I have a better understanding of the fear and terror that raced though the gay community and the barriers that AIDS set up against all the human race. One thing is for sure --- AIDS has proven it's staying power, it was there then, and it is still here today. Great acting, sound track and historical information.

Movie Review: Band still plays
Summary: 5 Stars

Drama, suspense, occasional humor. This movie was very entertaining in spite of its dark message as it portrayed the difficulties faced by the CDC in defining criteria for disease control of the "gay disease". Science is the heroine in this factual story on the discovery of a new and deadly virus. The details were played out terrifically by some talented actors and I highly recommend its viewing.

Movie Review: Best Docu-Drama of all Time
Summary: 5 Stars

Absolutely wonderful movie. I watch it once or twice a month, every month and still find it compelling. Makes you want to strangle Alan Alda! The ending with Elton John singing in the background is heart-wrenching. So many people have died needlessly of this disease. This movie should be required viewing for every High School student in America. I highly recommend this movie to everyone.

Movie Review: And the Band Played On Played it RIGHT!
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw the movie first and I cried. To think that millions of people had to die,( or at the time thousands)before someone would get off the pot and do something. I read the book afterward, many times and was moved even further. We're not out of the woods yet, but we're a heck of a lot further along than we were...THANK GOD! Randy Shilts would be pleased at the screen adaptation of his book!
