Movie Reviews of And the Band Played On

Movie Review: Should be required viewing
Summary: 5 Stars

The chilling history of the bureaucratic red tape that impeded progress in the early days of fighting the spread of the AIDS virus. This is another of HBO's excellent movies based upon real events, like "Citizen X".

Matthew Modine heads an all-star cast. This movie will make you angry and depressed at the same time, but that shouldn't steer you away from watching it. The story is probably as important as any other story facing the world today.

Movie Review: Searing indictment of careless politics vs human life
Summary: 5 Stars

Shilts' moving book comes to life with fabulous performances and the hearbreaking reality of AIDS. The early days are covered from the disease's discovery and its ravages of the population while politicians and even some health officials shrugged their shoulders. Sad to say that little has changed today: we still can't talk about condoms to teens and the drug companies are more concerned with making huge profits off the desperate. A must-see for everyone.

Movie Review: A Must Have!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This was a wonderful movie. Anyone in the social work field I highly recommend you view this movie. Matthew Modine's played his character wonderfully. I'm an Alan Alda fan and his character was very manipulative, unlike his usually fun-loving characters in other movies. A good learning experience for those wanting to be educated on HIV and AIDS. Great material for social work/sociology teachers to use as visual aid for learning about social aspects.

Movie Review: **A Touch Of Reality **
Summary: 5 Stars

I am very glad Amazon.Com, was selling this movie on DVD.
Not your everyday subject, but yet it should not be ignored how the A.I.D.S virus got spread around.

The fight about the virus etc, how one came about inventing at least a test for the AIDS virus etc.

If you are a teacher, and want your students to really learn something, or you want your students to pay attention, show them this movie.
It is a real EyeOpener !!

Movie Review: Needs to be watched
Summary: 5 Stars

I did not know any of the information that was in this movie. I had no idea it had taken so long from the actual 1st case, to a name of the disease, to an identification of the virus, to someone actually really being able to do something about it. I know there are other diseases out there right now that need funding for research. This really brings that point home. It was hard to watch, but I think it is an important movie to watch.
