Movie Reviews of And the Band Played On

Movie Review: Excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

Wonderful, historic movie about the discovery of the AIDS virus and how the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) in Atlanta, Georgia turned fiction into fact and turned a little known epidemic called GRIDS (gay-related immune deficiency syndrome) into AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome). It is extremely interesting and combines stories of characters who discover they have these symptoms of AIDS and what they go through. The movie also shows how America, as a people, begin to discover this new disease and how to handle it.

The movie is informative and scientitfic, explaining how it was actually discovered through research and focus groups. It's poignant and moving, but most importantly it is our history.

Movie Review: An eye opener of reality
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw this movie a few years ago it open my eyes to what many don't know or choose to ignore. It gets into a realty that began years ago and that none believe could happen to them and now many live with that realty or knows of someone who is living with it AIDS. It's a touching movie because it started as an issue that none wanted to be part of because it was believe to be a "GAY thing" they didn't see that regardless of being gay or not it was something that had to be addressed because lives were & are risk. It's a movie that should be seen!

Movie Review: Fabulous Movie
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie is one of my favorites. I remember seeing it on HBO when it first came out years ago and was so moved. The depiction of how HIV/AIDS came to be is truly astonishing. Having a dear friend die of this horrible disease is something that will stay with me for the rest of my life. I think that my favorite part of the movie is at the end when Elton John sings "The Last Song." I cry every time I see that.
If you want a movie that will challenge your beliefs about AIDS, get this movie. You won't be dissappointed.

Movie Review: Great movie to watch!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a wonderful movie about the life and times of my cousin Bill Kraus. Billy did alot of good for the gays and leisbans in his life time. He tried his best to help to protect people and getting the government to act on helping them. He was a very caring, concerned person. I spent many hours talking with his mother about the boys. It was a well put together book and movie and I know Billy would be very proud of it. Since, his death I have lost his mother and brother.

Movie Review: Wonderful Movie about the History of HIV/ AIDS
Summary: 5 Stars

Every since coming across this movie 5 years ago, I have been a huge fan and read the book soon after seeing it. I was happy to see that the movie really did a good job staying true to the book and the saga of HIV. I am now a science teacher and I always show this in my class when discussing HIV and AIDS. The students always enjoy it and many are moved to read the book, do more research on their own, or even join the cause. This is a movie that everyone should see!!!!
