Movie Reviews of An Unreasonable ManMovie Review: More amazing than science fiction Summary: 5 Stars
I used to think corporations were run by men who rose through the ranks on merit. I thought our big corporations were run by the best and the brightest our country had to offer. Then came the disasters at Enron and WorldCom. Now we have a sub-prime mortgage melt-down. So I investigated the flip side of the picture: Ralph Nader.
I had not realized he had done so much good for Americans. I had not known that he sued General Motors for harassment and won.
I wondered how John Kerry managed to throw away his chance to defeat Bush, then I saw this documentary and Ralph Nader described what he suggested to Kerry and I found myself saying, "Yes, I would have voted for Kerry if he had done as Nader suggested." The people running the Democratic party are brain-dead. It was amazing to see Nader understanding what it took to defeat Bush while John Kerry was clueless.
This documentary was one surprise after another. The biggest shock was seeing Pat Buchanan, who had worked in the White House for Nixon, Ford, and Reagan, saying on camera that "democracy in America is a fraud." Watch this documentary and you will see why Buchanan might say that.
I have been reading the New York Times regularly since I was a teen-ager. I am now middle-aged and finding out that we need to work hard to be well informed. Now I know I cannot trust the newspapers to keep me properly informed, maybe because they are large corporations with an agenda to twist the truth.
If you want to be an informed citizen, see this documentary.
Movie Review: No American Has Saved More Lives In The 20th Century... Summary: 5 Stars
than Ralph Nader. This statement is not just my opinion - it is backed up magnificently by "An Unreasonable Man." It is also backed up by this lone voice who only started to stand up, stand out (most painfully at times) for the sake of truth and justice that I owe to Ralph Nader's spark of hope in the heart of a female attorney at a time when one colleague in the law was jailed for contempt by a judge for violating the dress code when she wore a pants suit to court! More to the point of this small review, it would be fruitless for me to cross-reference the film itself especially when it is not only a substantive goldmine but also a nail-bitter, a thriller - truly. For example, as a retired attorney who has spent years fighting for the rights of sick and disabled kids - I learned something new from Ralph Nader in this film. I realized that The US Constitution is, literally - if not as a matter of law, the most profound instrument of an American's "identity" so to speak as a citizen-in-action. Now I've always kept the US Constitution close by in book form for easy reference. But as a result of watching one segment of this DVD that had me on the edge of my seat, I intend to carry it on my person as often as possible in an effort not to go anywhere without it! Thanks Ralph for reminding me that this precious instrument was intended to protect and defend one group - We The People - and no one has kept that spirit of truth alive especially in these times more than you...!
Movie Review: A Reason For Debate Summary: 5 Stars
Early in this film, Phil Donahue says "there's a Shakespearan feature to all of this", and he is right on the money. This brilliant film from the former producer of Everybody Loves Raymond examines the life of Ralph Nader, hearing from his favorite admirers...and his admirers who turned into his harshest critics(Eric Alterman: "I think the man needs to live in a different country. He's done enough damage to this one, let him damage someone else's for a while").
Nader had a massive impact on our lives, from seat belts to the Freedom of Information Act to product labeling to OSHA, no one in America has been left untouched by Nader's legacy. With amazing achival footage and on camera interviews, this film portrays how a once hero of the left, who appeared on the cover of Newsweek wearing a suit of armor, became the Democrats favorite bunching bag for costing Al Gore the election.
The filmakers do not pull any punches, as they examine the line between idealism and pragamatism and how far one should allow their politcal party to get worse before taking action. They also examine how one man could make a remarkable difference in the world.
Nader was undoubtly the most important private citizen of the 20th century. As the 21st century progresses along, the debate will be, Ralph Nader: Spoiler or Hero?
Movie Review: Great American Hero....still! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a well made documentary about the rise of consumer advocate Ralph Nader. In a political culture where our dollar means more than our vote and apathy rules Washington, Nader has, amazingly, remained faithful to core American values of Democracy AND Captitalism.
Nader has been a tireless and selfless champion of liberal values. His integrity is unquestionable. Then in 2000 he ran for President. Democrats, instead of embracing Nader, turned on him. This documentary does a good job of examining why this happened and how it may affect Nader's legacy.
This documentary also exposes the complacency and sometimes even complicity of Democrats in allowing Republicans to dismantle decades-worth of liberal programs which were designed to protect Americans. But most imporantly, it illustrates clearly that we are barely living in a Democracy. As Nader would say, "Democracy is weak right now." It will have to gain a lot of strenth before it can overtake the oligarchy that has high-jacked this once free nation.
But this documentary also left me feeling optimistic. Just as the national zeitgeist swung in favor of the Reagan Revolution in the late 70s, I left this documentary feeling that change was in the air. Perhaps 2008 will be a more important year than any of us can yet contemplate.
Movie Review: I haven't received this product yet but I must say you should consider purchasing items like this from other vendors of Amason. Summary: 5 Stars
I haven't yet received this product. I didn't purchase it from Amazon because it was [...]. I purchased it from one of their affiliates and it cost under [...] brand new and including the shipping. That's a saving of $18 for a DVD that I might watch one a year.
Now a word about Ralph Nader. If only people in this country realized how much this man did for them they would be amazed. He is responsible for all the car safety that we have today which probably saves 50,000 lives a year. The people that you voted against him for president are responsible for distroying hundreds of thousand of lives by lieing to us. He's also responsible for most of the consumer protection laws we have today, most of which have been distroyed by the republicans. He came up with answers to todays problems that the American people are two stuppid to listen to. I could go on and on. Ralph Nader is "An Unreasonable Man" and we would be a lot worst off if he never existted. He is truly my only hero. Buy this tape and some of his books and you will be enlightened. Also watch some of his stuff on "youTube". He is truly a great man. Which is more than I can say about anyone we have elected to the presidency since Lincoln. Oh yea, I highly recommend this DVD. It was shown on "Independant Lens" on PBS.
