Movie Reviews of An Unfinished Life

Movie Review: Cant go wrong with this Cast
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the type of movie I enjoy watching, and any movie with Morgan Freeman and Robert Redford is a cant miss. As Redford's character, Einar, still grieving his only son's death a decade ago, let his ranch fall into ruin along with his marriage. Now, Einar spends his days caring only for his hired handyman and last trusted friend, Mitch, (Morgan Freeman) who was gravely injured in an encounter with a grizzly bear. Einar intends to live out his days in this heartbroken solitude, until the very person he blames for his son's accident comes to town, his daughter in law Jean (Jennifer Lopez). Jean shows up broke, on the run from an abusive relationship, and with a girl named Griff, who is the granddaughter Einar never knew he had. All of a sudden, Einar's quiet life is turned upside down as anger and accusations resurface. Gradually, 11 year old Griff's curiosity about Western life and her longing for a family and a father figure, begin to chip away at the stone that has become Einar's heart, opening up the way for unexpected connection, adventure, mercy and true reunion.

Movie Review: The nature of things.
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie has a quiet presence. It doesn't shout, it doesn't light up, it doesn't shake. There are few movies now which show
intergenerational relationships. There are few films which include elders. We are all teachers, and hopefully when older we can have some wisdom to pass along to others. There is a bear-like presence among the humans, as well as in the presence of an actual bear. All are touched. The people in the Wyoming town share space with wild creatures. Robert Redford's character is gruff, with a soft center. Both his deceased son and granddaughter have the name of Griff. The abusive boyfriend is as impulsively unpredictable as a bear. And then Morgan Freeman's character points out that he was mauled by a bear, while the bear was just being himself. This film seems to flow naturally. Older people are filled with stories. We wear down many pairs of shoes while alive. Maybe the "delay" in this film's release lined it up with open minds. In view of death, this is a film about the nature of life which unfolds in a beautiful, natural setting. Bravo.

Movie Review: A Must See...
Summary: 5 Stars

Despite any comments on it's predictability, I still this movie to be touching, moving, and above all, so inspirational. Much heartbreak but tempered with redemption and forgiveness that will inspire you to find the courage within to be set free from whatever is holding you back from living the this one life we have to the full. Incredible performances by an all-star cast, each did their part to bring out the emotional depth and sensitivity, along woth a bit of humor here and there, to tell a beautiful story about an ordinary man who carries around the weight of fear, sadness and unforgivenss, and how his life is free when he decides to face his greatest fears and let it all go.
Truly a must see! Except for one suggestive scene with JLo's character and the local sheriff early on in the movie, I'd say this is a good choice for the family to watch with older children.
Beautifully orchestrated - haunting yet hopeful, I highly recommend the sountrack, too!!

Movie Review: Reminiscent of the good movies done in the past
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie is a keeper. I first viewed it on cable and decided to purchase it. I actually purchased two copies so that I could give one to our neighbors. I just knew that this was the perfect movie for them, so I couldn't not buy them their own copy. Turned out that I was right on...they watched it five times in two weeks, and I received alot of positive feedback from them for the gift. Others that I've loaned it to also really liked the movie. It's not really action packed like so many of today's movies and is somewhat predictable and feel good, but the characters are very likable, and who doesn't like to get a warm feeling from watching a good show once in a while? For anyone who has been brought up in the Western states, it is easy to feel a kinship with some of the characters, because you have met or known some like them at some point in your life. I would definitely recommend this movie.

Movie Review: Memorable movie.
Summary: 5 Stars

Once again I am baffled at the Oscars choices; I did not want this movie to end, I still wanted to know how the lives turned out for these outstanding characters portrayed by some of Hollywood's finest actors. Robert Redford and his granddaughter who comes into his life Becca Gardner where outstanding along with the great Morgan Freeman. Josh and J Lo added to the mix of good performances. Then J Lo's abusive ex-boyfriend comes back to reek havoc. Plus the bear which was symbolic of the freedom we all seek. Sound track was perfect. Robert Redford played a crotchety man living on his ranch but played it like a man's man not some pretty boy and he was so effective still maintaining his star quality. The movie evokes all kinds of emotions; friendship, love and forgiveness and going on with your life messages. In my opinion this was one of the best movies of the year.
