Movie Review: shimmering beauty

Following the lead of the other reviewer, I purchased two of these as CD/DVD combos gifts, and then caved in to the urge to open one and give it a listen. I have always been a die-hard Yes fan and admirer of Rick Wakeman's keyboard prowess. It was a fantastic change of pace to hear clean, unadulterated, classic piano from this master. Most of the tracks on the DVD are set to lovely scenic footage, but four of the tracks feature Rick performing in the studio: Nearer My God to Thee, Trust and Obey, Morning Has Broken, and Amazing Grace. Interspersed between tracks are shots of Rick briefly setting the stage for the next piece of music. There are 4 additional tracks on the CD that are not on the DVD.
Some of my favorites are:
Morning Has Broken - Apparently I've been living under a rock, and only now learned that Rick Wakeman both wrote and performed this exquisite piano composition for the popular Cat Stevens version of this hymn. Perhaps Cat should have given him proper credit! I literally had tears in my eyes by the end of the song. Extraordinary, and worth the price of the DVD for this song alone!
Jesu, Lover of My Soul - "proggish" musical interpretation, and really a wonderful piece.
Come, O Come, Emmanuel - the most "proggish" track, beautifully haunting and perfect for adding to your holiday music rotation. It doesn't seem to fit in with the classic tone of the rest of the album, but it is super.
Ode To Joy - a charming, dancing, lilting interpretation of one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written.
Amazing Grace - As lovely a version of this classic hymn as I have ever heard.
Besides all the sparkling piano goodness (which can be appreciated by true afficianados of any, or no, faith persuasion), another magical moment stood out for me on the DVD. After Rick's lovely daughter, Jemma, finished performing the only vocal selection, a reprise of "Amazing Grace", he beamed at her with such a look of fatherly love and pride, it was quite touching to see from the self-professed "grumpy old rock star"!
