Movie Reviews of All My Loved Ones

Movie Review: Family story . . .
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a familiar story told with elegance and poignance - about a well-to-do Jewish family in Prague in the late 1930s, as Nazism looms and in the final moments of the film overwhelms them. The joys and sorrows, meanwhile, are those of almost any extended family with brothers pulled in different directions, ranging from a doctor and a concert violinist to an amateur inventor. Another brother shows up who has been on the road with his own carnival.

The predictability of the story is countered by rapid scene changes and an attempt to follow the lives of several family members, so that one family crisis quickly falls on the heels of another. The story of Englishman Nicholas Winton, whose efforts saved 669 Jewish children, is only partially told. We meet him briefly at the start of the film and he appears again near the end. The emphasis is on the family, remembered in the voice-over narration of one of those children saved. While a celebration of family, its theme of impending annihilation makes it a melancholy story.

Movie Review: Very Touching
Summary: 4 Stars

The film's staccato rhythm as it jumps between different characters and their stories is frustrating, and its techniques (e.g., slow motion to suggest emotional weight) are sometimes dated. But it offers a glimpse of the Solomonic decision facing Jewish parents in those turbulent times: to save their children and yet to lose them. And it traces a sustained and moving portrait of the worldly Sam, whose despair as the society he embraced abandons him is both clear-eyed and devastating.

Movie Review: not so loved
Summary: 1 Stars

I don't know who these people are who wrote reviews on this movie. I bought this movie based on reviews which was big mistake. This movie goes on and on about nothing it's not about family or war. There are many sex scenes of boy's uncle or his unmarried sister and some nude pictures of woman embracing each other. I thought people who want this kind of scene there is porn movie. I was interested in history point of view and what family life was like in that time peropd which this movie shows nothing about. Unless you want be totaly digusted save your time and money. Yuck!
