Movie Reviews of Alive

Movie Review: Thoroughly excellent. Should have been nominated for award.
Summary: 5 Stars

This excellent movie glued me to my seat and struck me to the heart. It seemed sometimes that it just wasn't God's will for these guys to survive. It left me wondering how some people have such a strong will to stay alive.

One of my favorite scenes was when Roberto was giving up, but Nando encouraged Roberto by making him realize that all they had survived so far "is impossible" to survive, "but we did it". That realization, that they had survived the impossible, then strengthened Roberto enough to keep going.

Main players Ethan Hawke and Josh Hamilton give riveting performances, as does the rest of the cast.

Movie Review: Vivid adaptation of book
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a vivid adaptation of the true survival story after a horrific plane crash in the Andes. Though the real events are certainly far more gruesome, some of the scenes will quite possibly cause some gut aches. What struck me most was how some of the young members of the flight took leadership roles and kept struggling to keep hope alive. Their courage helped hold things together when it would've been easier to give in to desperation and allow themselves to die. I don't think anyone who watches this movie or reads the book could ever walk away from this story without a greater appreciation for life.

Movie Review: "ALIVE" is the bible for understanding how to survive a catastrophe.
Summary: 5 Stars

When I first watched the movie "Alive" in the early 1990's, I was horrified at how graphic and real the movie was shot. The director and producers, as well as the survivors went to great lengths to ensure that every detail was captured verbatim of the 1970's catastrophe. It's as if there was a documentarian on the plane with the rugby team at the time of the incident. Anyone who watches this movie will truly appreciate what it means to survive a disaster, and some may even be inspired to develop ways in which to prevent future tragedies of this magnitude ever happening again.

Movie Review: Incredible story!
Summary: 5 Stars

Being a movie buff I have seen many but this one is certainly one of the most impressive stories I have ever come across - wow! The challenges of survival people are faced with after crashing in the Andes and the strength of spirit that can emerge when human beings are forced to deal with ultimate life threatening circumstances leaves an unforgettable imprint in your mind and heart. I don't want to give away details but highly recommend to see this remarkable film and let yourself be touched and truly humbled as I was after first seeing it years ago..

Movie Review: interesting study in psychology
Summary: 5 Stars

Like others have said, the director handled the uncomfortable aspects of this storyline in a tactful and compassionate manner. An interesting study in psychology, the film describes a real-life Survivor scenario, as in the reality television show. Ethan Hawke's character is the one I find most memorable, including his dangerous hike out of the mountains to safety. Author of Adjust Your Brain: A Practical Theory for Maximizing Mental Health.
