Movie Reviews of Alien vs. Predator [Blu-ray]

Movie Review: Absolutely Fantastic Film
Summary: 5 Stars

For all my reviews visit my website

I am NOT reviewing the DVD. Just the movies unless otherwise stated.

Please note that the rating above might not accurately reflect my thoughts, you will see a rating sentence at the end of the review.

You know, I heard a story that an old lady walked into the 300 premier and asked "what movie is this?" To a guy in the audience. So the guy picks her up, sets her almost tripping down the stairs and goes "THIS...IS...SPAARTAAAAAAA!!!!!" And kicks her down the stairs. That's awesome, but here's my only problem: why don't movies like this and Freddy vs. Jason have those kinda fan bases all over the place?!?

That movie, was #$%^ing awesome! It was definably on par with Freddy vs. Jason, and you KNOW how much I love Freddy vs. Jason! Some people might not like it because it's got a PG-13 rating and there's not enough gore. Others might feel the atmosphere is not right for an Alien or a Predator movie. Others don't like crossovers. I've heard this Devil quote so many times "Hollywood just goes and takes what's popular and mashes it together." ...Okay, I don't see what's wrong with that! Lemme re-phrase that: If you don't like crossovers, you aren't a movie nerd. If you don't wanna be a movie nerd, you might aswell not even like movies. If you don't like movies, you're missing out on a heck of a lot of stuff.

That said, let's get down to tiny details and major awesomeness. One of the greatest things for purists and CGI haters like myself i9s that they don't #%$^ around with stupid CG, they put actors in suits and use puppets, robots, whatever is real effects. Unfortunately this movie takes risks. I say unfortunately because that can backfire. Even if it doesn't backfire, it still gets more people to hate. WTH am I talking about? You have to watch the entire movie, you really can't miss any of it unless you don't wanna get the full experience. If you do watch the whole thing, your gonna love the twist ending.

Now let's get down to the plot: People go to Antarctica and find Aliens and Predators. That, is the non-spoiler one. Here's the spoiler plot: Scientists go to Antarctica because there is a pyramid there that seems to have been built by the Cambodians, Mayans and Egyptians all at the same time. So, they go in, and they get themselves caught up in a war between the two species. They find the origin of the two species, and eventually they all get killed except for one who takes a very interesting turn. Still didn't completely spoil it for ya didn't I?

Needless to say, this is already awesome. I wanna see more AVP and FVJ heck let's go AVPVT and FVJVM (Alien vs. Predator vs. Terminator and Freddy vs. Jason vs. Michael.) But were not over. You'll be glad to know that the Alien species is kept the H.R. style, and the Predators have been buffed up. Either way, it's awesome. Now, this is a prequel to Alien, so there is no Sigourney Weiver. (IDNK how to spell her name.) But, there is awesomeness. Pure awesome war scenes between the two, and it's a movie with real effects so don't expect it to be 10/5 action but have you really ever seen that? Seriously, this is 5/5 action and 6/5 climax.

Oh, speaking of the climax, it seemed they pulled out some tactics from the Jurassic Park Lost World game. You know that one that's always broken at the arcade? Yeah, I guess I better tell you Queen Alien is involved. And man, she is just as bad@$$ as she always has been. And how does Predator equalize? Well sir, who says he does? But trust me, if your a fan of either side your gonna love this movie. It only has disappointment in very brief and slightly important scenes. I'll restate: there's not enough blood. Why is it PG-13, just why? Well, you know I love this movie, but I'm also a gore hound. However I understand the Alien and Predator series were trying to cash in on the chiller style and not so much gore and shock. Oh, and there's a scene where you will expect Michael Jackson.

There's so much more pure awesomenss to talk about, but I cannot explain half of it and the other half will spoil it beyond belief. So therefore, if you haven't seen it, buy it. Every single Horror, Sci-Fi, Fantasy and dare I say Action fan should buy this!

The Rating? 6/5. I think I've only given 3-5 movies that rating.

Summary of Alien vs. Predator [Blu-ray]

"It may be our planet, but it's their war!" The deadliest creatures from the scariest sci-fi movies ever made face off for the first time on film. The incredible adventure begins when the discovery of an ancient pyramid buried in Antarctica sends a team of scientists and adventurers to the frozen continent. There, they make an even more terrifying discovery: two alien races engaged in the ultimate battle. Whoever wins...we lose.
In delivering PG-13-rated excitement, Alien vs. Predator is an acceptably average science-fiction action thriller with some noteworthy highlights, even if it squanders its opportunity to intelligently combine two popular and R-rated franchises. Rabid fans can justifiably ask "Is that all there is?" after a decade of development hell and eager anticipation, but we're compensated by reasonably logical connections to the Alien legacy and the still-kicking Predator franchise (which hinted at AVP rivalry at the end of Predator 2); some cleverly claustrophobic sets, tense atmosphere and impressive digital effects; and a climactic AVP smackdown that's not half bad. This disposable junk should've been better, but nobody who's seen Mortal Kombat or Resident Evil should be surprised by writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson's lack of imagination. As a brisk, 90-minute exercise in generic thrills, however, Anderson's work is occasionally impressive... right up to his shameless opening for yet another sequel. --Jeff Shannon
