Movie Reviews of Alice's Restaurant

Movie Review: Alice's Restaurant blu-ray
Summary: 5 Stars

Thanksgiving is coming soon, and once again, particularly in 2010 when blu-ray is not rare anymore, we still don't have this movie on blu-ray. Does the studio not want to make money or what? This is not a great film as in Potemkin or the Battle of Algiers, but it is a wonderful film about an era and a lifestyle that a lot of people would (in their minds anyway) liked to have lived, at least until they had to grow up. My vinyl is still holding up and gets plenty of play, but given the technology available today, I'd like to see the best possible video also. And if you do put it onto blu-ray, do a good job, not like the sad job done on Being There. Thanks Amazon, for letting me rant, and maybe someone with the power to get this done will consider it!

Movie Review: From someone who knows Arlo
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a folksinger and have known the Guthries for a very long time. I knew Marjorie Guthrie, but not woody because I was just little when he died.
I can tell you that Marjorie Guthrie loved this movie and would be very happy that people are still watching it. Marjorie died of cancer back in the 1980's.
I myself love this movie and have seen it many times. As I'm writing this, the movie is on TV right now. I ran to the computer to see if it's on DVD. I really thought it wasn't out on DVD yet but to my surprise it is and I ordered it right away. This is a movie I will love all my life time and my son too,
who I named ARLO. Please do watch this movie. It's one of the best in movie history.

Movie Review: A Child of the 90's Review
Summary: 5 Stars

I was a child of the 90's , graduating in 2000 from Terrell High School (Jamie Foxx's ol' stompin' grounds ) and I found myself identifying mmore with this movie than with the putrid teen bile spewed across the screen that was intended for me and my people. I love this movie, and when I finally got to meet Mr. Guthrie while working for the mouse in Orlando (you know the one) I was overjoyed. He was as personable and entertaining in person as I had always hoped he would be. For some, I guess the movie would be considered a bit odd, but all in all, it's a grade A piece of counterculture from a bygone era.

Movie Review: lovely
Summary: 5 Stars

As a child I pestered my mother for information about 60's culture. One day I think she had just had enough and rented this film and the documentary Woodstock for me and said, "here maybe this can answer your questions." I fell in total love with Arlo that day as well as the rest of Alice's Restaurant. It isn't the greatest acting in the world, but Arlo's added commentary and reflections on the DVD version make it fantastic. I always smile when I think of this film and Arlo Guthrie's impact on my world. I'm smiling right now! Do yourself a favor and get this DVD, you'll love it.

Movie Review: Great DVD - But...
Summary: 5 Stars

I had fun doing a running commentary for this new DVD release which I know you'll enjoy. However, because MGM/UA would not allow our small company to purchase the DVD at a decent wholesale price, they've cut us out from selling the product through our own retail outlet (we can buy it cheaper here at Amazon) where we've been selling our CDs and VHS movies (including Alice's Restaurant) for years. We are boycotting the sale of the DVD until changes can be made. Stick with us and wait. Then buy it here or anywhere. Thanks, Arlo Guthrie
