Movie Reviews of AkiraMovie Review: pleasantly surprised Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of my favorite movies, period. This was the first anime film I ever saw and I only watched it after lecturing my roommate for getting a cartoon and wasting my money on renting it. I went through a complete 180 degree change of mind after the first 15 minutes of the film. By the way, don't look away for second or you will definitely miss something important. I have found I am not an anime fan, but Akira stands just fine on its own. An excellent movie.
Movie Review: Akira is one of the greatest animations around. Summary: 5 Stars
The first time I saw Akira, it was really hard to understand, and after the 5th time watching it, I am sure I know all or most of it. This is the great part of the movie, how in depth it is. This draws the deep thinkers and the violence that is common in Japanimation draws the bloodthirsty. Meaning Everyone gets what they want! This movie is one of the best ever made in my humble opinion, and I recommend it to anyone interested in Japanese animations.
Movie Review: Wow..... Summary: 5 Stars
I didn't use to be a big anime fan, but this was the first anime movie I ever saw. After I saw it, I couldn't get enough of it. I watched it over and over, until I started watching other anime movies. Now I'm a huge anime fan, and Akira is still my favorite. It has an unusual and hard to follow plot line that most people who gave it one star said was stuid. They don't understand it, obviously. This movie is just plain great.
Movie Review: A modern classic Summary: 5 Stars
The best animation you will see for a very long time. even now, over a decade later, most films can't come close in quality. only Ghost in the Shell has come within shouting distance. It is the Fantasia of Anime. You must watch it to understand what influence it has had on movies. even american movies. It is simply the benchmark. The high water mark which animated films will try to surpass for the next twenty years.
Movie Review: Definitely not Disney Summary: 5 Stars
I have watched Akira any number of times, and I have to agree with other reviewers who say it is confusing. Even the Amazon.com reviewer got mixed up--the motorcycle punk is Tetsuo, and Akira is the child/experiment that grew too strong too fast and was placed in deep-freeze in separate parts. But the scene showing what happens when those parts are reassembled is worth the price of the video. The best anime ever.
