Movie Reviews of After HoursMovie Review: Please publish this DVD Summary: 5 Stars
Data processor Paul Hackett decides to forego an evening of bland television watching to endure a collage of misunderstandings, unstated desires, and unrelenting dramatic tension. The movie is nicely scored, richly casted, well paced and completely original. Scorcese allows the viewer some room to think and experience the movie as the story moves through unpredictable turns and quirks. Darkly funny, this film contrasts with Scorcese's other work and should be published in dvd to complement this film maker's other contributions to the art and to show his versatility and wit.
Movie Review: best and most quotable lines ever Summary: 5 Stars
I've seen this movie multiple times. Fun with a group of people. A dark comedy with Griffin Dunne trying to hook up with a girl he just met, under the guise of buying a bagel and cream cheese paper weight. He's an innocent with no idea of what the night has in store for him. You have to give yourself up to this movie, it's not meant to be realistic, more like that paranoid state of mind that happens when you're in a high-anxiety state and everything seems just a little "off". All I can say is "Surrender Dorothy!" which you'll understand when you see the movie.
Movie Review: You hope the night (and the movie) never ends Summary: 5 Stars
This film has been around for a while (decades), but this was my first viewing. Super!
A guy with a hum drum office job crosses paths with a strange chick in a late night cafe. He accepts a rendezvous invitation . . . and the night in SoHo (Manhatten) takes off. Bizarre people. Bizarre circumstances. A surreal package.
Well written and well executed. MUCH fun and I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. A "time check" is slipped into the story occasionally, and alas, dawn finally nears. Very different and very cool.
Movie Review: This review is for Amazon's impeccable memory Summary: 5 Stars
When I searched for this film two years ago Amazon.com informed me that it wasn't available on dvd, but if I wanted they'd send me an email when it became available. And now, two years later, they've sent me that email! I've had friends tell me that they'll call me back in five minutes and they forget to do it, but Amazon.com, after two freaking years, remembers to get back to me about this obscure, hard-to-find movie. This blows my mind.5 stars to Amazon, and maybe I'll get around to watching "After Hours" some day.
Movie Review: Great Late Night Show! Summary: 5 Stars
I fell asleep on the couch one night with the TV on. I woke up in the wee hours to the beginning of this movie and ended up watching it all the way through. It was quirky, otherworldly, and funny. Interestingly enough, you would never know this was a Martin Scorsese film, but he even has a cameo in it (watch for the lighting guy in the club). It's a good film worth watching and owning.
