Movie Reviews of Adam's ApplesMovie Review: I love this movie.. :) Summary: 5 Stars
I don't usually jump on movies with subtitles, but one night while scanning through TV channels, I ended up on the Sundance Channel, and this was on. The five seconds I had it on hooked me and I finished watching it. It was such a great movie, I had to buy it. It's very dark comedy though, and sometimes you find yourself in great disbelief over what you're seeing, and yes, there is violence, but I've watched it a few times now and I really do enjoy it. I don't have anything profound to say about the movie, and I personally didn't find it overly thought provoking, but it was worth the time I took to watch it. My fiance HATES movies with subtitles and it was difficult for me to get him to agree to watch it, but I finally convinced him to try and he loved the movie. If you like dark comedy, try it out. I think you'll be glad you did.
Movie Review: Outstanding! Summary: 5 Stars
It's unfortunate that every preacher/minister is portrayed a certain way in the media because of the limited thinking and exposure of the writers of such characters, but I have to say this movie is LOL funny and very well-written and has to be seen for the entertainment value alone.
The acting is OUTSTANDING! Another example of non-American actors who are more concerned with their art and craft as opposed to their image. It's simply amazing how this same group of actors can interchangeably portray good, evil, victim, victimizer with such humor and conviction.
Most importantly, "good" wins in the war over "evil" with "providence" as it's general. Though surprisingly violent at times, I HIGHLY recommend it and it'll be the first foreign movie I'll refer to others out of my collection!
Movie Review: Turn the other cheek... never stop hoping Summary: 5 Stars
I watched this movie with my 12 year-old son and it prompted good conversation, even getting us to dust off a bible and look at the Book of Job. I am agnostic, he is atheistic, but I found the movie wonderful, horrible, painful, and ultimately, satisfying. In my opinion, it reminds us that there needs to be people willing to turn the other cheek, to see the best in others -- of course this film explores the absurd extremes of those ideas, making you cringe as Ivan takes a beating... over and over again. Blunt, beautiful, shocking and thought provoking... mixed with dark humor and oiled liberally with music from the Bee Gee's asking the ultimate question, "How Deep is Your Love?"
I highly recommend this movie, though not with little children.
Movie Review: Insanely great film! Summary: 5 Stars
I loved this movie! It left me dumbstruck with laughter and tears. Amazing acting, insanely dark comedy with light at the end of the tunnel! Who is crazy in this story? The reverend or everyone else? You can't be sure, but the answer comes by the end. The incomparable Mads Mikkelsen is amazing, and Ulrich Thomsen has to have the best facial reactions to what's going on around him I've ever seen. It's amazing. Others have done a great job describing the film, I'll just add my 2 cents that you should not miss this one!
