Movie Reviews of Abba - In Concert 1979Movie Review: Well Worth the View and Price Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this in it's original media form in the 1981-82 time frame. It wasn't the best viewing conditions, but it was certainly the most popularly viewed (and re-viewed) production in our closed community.
If you are an ABBA fan, there is nothing about this DVD that you should dislike. It is REAL, folks, and was put together at a time when ABBA was still there, doing what they did very, very well. Superstars then, ABBA just didn't do a bad concert, and the flavour you get throughout the production exemplifies the different looks, feels and sounds of this incredible group.
Production quality is worth a brief comment. If the original producers had known this was going to be around more than 30 years later, perhaps they'd have upgraded some of their original equipment. Not necessarily the best quality at the time, but much of the issue with the original was solved in the DVD. What is certainly true, is that it does show the vulnerability they can show on stage, how they set the bar for audience interaction, without losing the mystique of the group.
Good to keep in your library, way up front where the rest of the 'ABBA' items are.

Terrific, Amazing, Excellent Concert !!!! Love it !!!!, 12 May 2005

I would like to tell everybody that this concert special is perfect!! Although there are songs that were not included on the DVD, a lot of Abba's greatest hits were included.
The only thing I didn't like much is that the song Waterloo is not complete but just part of it, but the rest of the special is excellent. I love it very much, and I would recommend it to everybody.
From beginning to end you can't stop dancing, the songs are great, the energy, the music, everything is fantastic. And I'm a musician so I know what I'm talking about.
I would love to see another new release of abba's concerts on DVD as soon as possible.
And to finish this up, I would like to say that Agnetha was gorgeous, so beautiful, and was and still is a very good human being. She's one of the loves of my life, he he. God bless you Agnetha! Thanks to you and the others in the group for giving the people such fantastic and beautiful music, take care you all;

Movie Review: For every ABBA fan Summary: 5 Stars
My only complaint about the CD is the duration. Songs are incomplete and some just play in the background, like Eagle. A lot of footage showing the members preparing, rehearsing etc are shown. If only more songs had been recorded it would only have satisfied more discerning ABBA fans like me. ABBA is truly a great live act. They sold out Wembley on consecutive nights, something that even seasoned rock acts weren't capable of. I don't listen (or watch them) like I do with other bands but they have certainly stood the test of time as their fan base keeps growing even to this very day.
When I started listening to pop and rock in the early 80's ABBA was my favorite. Only The Beegees could make a better impression. The other band was Boney M that I stopped listening to in those early years but Lonely Planet, the travel authority mentions that Boney M is still played in pubs in some south-east asian countries. However ABBA is going to be remembered and listened to as long as pop lives.
Sound and picture quality are great on this DVD. I only wished it had lasted longer.
5 stars, inspite of the complaint.
Movie Review: My favorite ABBA dvd to date. Summary: 5 Stars
Most of this dvd is footage from ABBA's 1979 concert in Wembley, England, when the group was at its height in popularity (and togetherness). Sadly, the group's last public appearance as ABBA was only a couple of years after this concert. The disc has some interesting stuff about ABBA behind the scenes, like Bjorn running for exercise, and comments about the group dynamics. Apparently, majority ruled in internal discussions. (No mention of tie-breakers). One con: in the beginning of the dvd, you see ABBA briefly in performance; just as you're getting into it, they cut away for behind-the-scenes stuff. However, the complete performances of each song are included in the bonus features.
For the first time, I could clearly see why male audiences found Agnetha's bottom so fascinating, and that she knew it and played to it, constantly turning from side to side when singing some songs. It's also easy to see why audiences loved Ani-Frid, a generous, giving performer, who poured her soul into her songs. All in all, it's easy to see why ABBA became such a cult phenom, their songs are still played today.
Movie Review: All you want is more! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a historical DVD: remember it was filmed back in 1979, when very few acts did the same; it was meant for TV and not for the big screen (as was Abba The Movie); it was BEFORE MTV and when video clips where called promo videos or music videos... This said, sit down if you can and enjoy the four super Swedes, their super band, the roller-skates cameramen, the cheering audience... let it go! I don't get the sound issue as many have said since I have just a regular 2.0 TV set, but ABBA rocks and kick it here with superior instrumental and vocal skills. It's a natural perfomance like those you don't see nowadays. Of course you miss the complete Waterloo or Take A Chance On Me videos; you naturally feel like hanging the editors for chopping half of Knowing Me, Knowing You or the full Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! live version (instrumental/dance solo); you can't understand in life why Eagle was put aside, with that great guitar solo... but that's because even those typical low-profile Swedish TV people at that time weren't sure about ABBA's longevity... At the end all you want is more!
