Movie Reviews of AbandonMovie Review: A TEASE! Summary: 4 Stars
The movie is weak. The character of Katie Holmes is monotonous and boring. The real interesting character is EMBRY. I absolutely fell in love with him. He is probably the most complex character in the movie, yet about 4 or 5 scenes are dedicated to him. If only his role was expanded, the movie could have been a psychological anomoly. Being a psychology major, I would give anything to study a character like that. He is truly an enigma--possessing the qualities of a genius, while being magnetically arrogant and and charmingly egoistic. He is an anti-hero, being a basher of conformity and the masses. He gets what he wants. This was evident in about 2 scenes in the movie. The 2 scenes that depicted his enigmatic personality were a tease, for the rest of the film was rubbish, portraying his character as nothing more than a jealous boyfriend. A movie should be made on this character ALONE. I suggest you watch the first 30 minutes of it and spend the rest contemplating the depth of Embry's psyche.
Movie Review: What a Thriller This Is, Do Not "Abandon" Summary: 4 Stars
Katie Holmes stars (coincidentally, not) as Katie, a college student who has a bright future. Just when life is perfect for her, a detective (Benjamin Bratt) shows up, questioning her about her ex-boyfriend Embry, who's been missing for two years. Soon, Katie begins seeing [visions of] Embry around the campus. This twist of a script makes the film jump up and down, back and forth numerous times through flash-backs and flash-forwards. For some, it's puzzling. For others, it's a ride that keeps you on the edge of your seat, right up to the ingenious finale. Holmes definitely stands out, and this box-office failure is worth a second glance. The suspense thriller is brilliantly written and directed by the award-winning screenwriter of "Traffic." Others may find the movie a lost cause, but you shouldn't ditch "Abandon."
Movie Review: Abandon : Is it worth it ? Summary: 4 Stars
Abandon is a spicy little film that was brushed aside in theaters. But I think this movie had alot going for it. It was so un-like the clique teen movies and tryed to break into something new. The thing about this movie is that I am not sure if I like it or not. The plot is great with a twist its just that I think this film could have been made tighter and seeping with tension. In comparsion with the traitor, I think it has alot more moments that were cut from the final product that could have made it better. But I think everyone should give it a try because it is a good entertaining movie. There is this one scene called "strobing" I am totally in love with. Pay attention to this scene because there is alot of clues in it. Try it you may like it
Movie Review: Stephen Gaghan does it again Summary: 4 Stars
For everyone who loved the flavor of dialogue in TRAFFIC this additional thriller by Stephen Gaghan won't disappoint. Yes, there is a fantastic cast (Benjamin Bratt who continues to grow as an actor, Katie Holmes ditto, and that new light of the screen Zooey Deschanel) to propel this rather dark tale along, but it is the grit in the direction and filming that rounds out what appears to be a consistent vision on Gaghan's part. This is a dark movie but one that keeps its claws in you until the end. A lot a chance taking here and the chances were rewarded. Recommended.
Movie Review: Kept me guessing Summary: 4 Stars
This is a mind twister. May be a little slow for hard core action fans, but detective 'who done it' buffs will love this one. I thought I had it figured out and was pleased to find I'd guessed it all wrong. I still like being surprised. This is the first time I've seen Katie Holmes in a movie. She played the role very well. If you like an edgy mystery, try this one. It's a challenge to figure out if there was a crime, and if so, who did it?
