Movie Reviews of ABBA The Movie

Movie Review: Disappointing
Summary: 3 Stars

I was hoping for more from "ABBA The Movie".

The problem is there's too much movie -- a stupid running gag about a hapless disk jockey trying to score an interview with the group on their Australian tour -- and not enough ABBA live in concert.

What's more, the live footage covers too many of their (deservedly) lesser known songs and not enough of their classic hits.

On the plus side, the sound quality is quite good.

And then there's Agnetha's backside -- "Agnetha's bottom is tops at show" says one newspaper review headline, and the footage here demonstrates why, with no ifs, ands, or -- butts! Seriously, J Lo and the Kardashians have NOTHING on Agnetha!

I have ordered "ABBA In Concert", despite what I understand is pretty poor sound, because they perform more of their biggest hits.

It would be nice if they released ALL the concert footage from "ABBA The Movie" WITHOUT the dopey d.j. and backstage stuff. THAT might earn five stars from me...

Movie Review: ABBA...THE FRUIT SALAD
Summary: 3 Stars

highly anticipating this recent release , and beeing an avid ABBA fan , i was not thoroughly satisfied.
1979 was TEN YEARS AFTER 1969 - yet this is NO WOODSTOCK! production and sound...well...suck!
storyline is idiotic and breaks the picking of the musical enjoyment.
a concert footage only would have earned my review a star higher.
why show only the end of FERNANDO ? and why such low-fi on the classiest - MAMA MIA?
other than that , there are some joyous monents on stage , like DANCING QUEEN.
if Lasse can come home and re edit this mishmash we will all thank him very much.

Movie Review: ABBA the movie
Summary: 3 Stars

Music was very good but some songs were cut short. Too much showing "our hero" and his problems. Should have more of ABBA and less of him. Also, the plot was a little thin.

Movie Review: Silly movie reminesent of The Beatles "Help"
Summary: 3 Stars

Interesting videos of ABBA within this lightweight version of "Help"

Not bad when focused on ABBA

Movie Review: Not as good as the Number One Hits DVD
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased this and the Number One Hits DVD at the same time. I was expecting a lot better sound quality and showing ABBA on stage performing their songs in concert. At times it appeared to be more like an amateur video shot with no direct sound connection to the microphones, but instead just ambient sound through the audiance. The editing also cut back and forth during songs to a quasi story of some country and western DJ assigned by his station manager to get an exclusive interview with ABBA and put it on the air in a special program. But the baffoon has no credit credentials and hasn't the first clue about how to set up an interview with the manager.

So the movie takes us around Australia with the DJ chasing and getting kicked out of every concert because he has no ticket or press pass.

Some of the songs sung in the concert I've never heard. Don't wish to hear again.

If the movie had concentrated on ABBA, behind the scenes more, being on a road tour and just interviews with fans and a much better sound feed and cameras set up to film a concert, this might have been good. As it was, I resold it faster than it took to watch it.

The other DVD, Number One Hits is worth the money. I'd pass on this one.
