Movie Reviews of ABBA: The Movie [Blu-ray]Movie Review: ABBA Looks Gorgeous in Blu-ray! Summary: 5 Stars
I used to have the DVD and thought the PQ was fine on my HD TV. But I sold the DVD and bought this blu-ray because I wanted to have and enjoy the best ABBA. You know what? This blu-ray is da bomb in PQ and AQ. Huge improvement! You will enjoy every single bit of each member of ABBA in such detail. The design of main menu and extras, which I believe were re-designed for blu-ray, is beautiful and creative. The each image of gallery of the movie posters looks so sharp and clean in HD. I'm happy I got this blu-ray. I just hope "all" ABBA's previous video materials will be released in blu-ray as well...very soon.
P.S. On the cover, it says the vision is in 1080i but actually 1080p.
Movie Review: The movie Summary: 5 Stars
We were looking for this movie for long time, found it the better quality of picture and sound, what gave us even more impression. We watched this movie when we were young many years ago, it returned us into youth, made us happy!

Ordering was easy. Tracking the status of my package through the USPS was a nightmare. Everthing stops at Denver Col. and no statas after that.

This is EXCELLENT. The music is timeless and if you are an ABBA fan this DVD is a perfect addition to your collection of ABBA music.
Movie Review: Good Job, Lasse Hallstrom! Summary: 4 Stars
I had known about this ABBA movie for sometime - and for some reason, I thought I had rented it from NetFlix and concluded that I wasn't too impressed with it. However, when I bought and viewed it recently on BlueRay, I have no recollection of having viewed this film at all! (Other than bits & pieces on YouTube, but not entirely.)
So..., it is yet again nice to see ABBA in their flesh & blood form. Because they will not likely be seen together again, it is priceless to see their old footages - especially LIVE performances.
This one is particularly a "labour of skills" from Lasse Hallstrom, already a promising film-maker during that time. Granted that he had limited access to ABBA behind-the-scenes (and that this effort was not originally conceived to be a feature film), it was through sheer creativity that he was able to piece-together this gem - complete with a storyline (albeit thin & repetitive); comments from concert-goers, journalists, street people, kids; depiction of the ABBA mania/mob in Australia; and glimpses into some background/personalities of the performers (which were appropriately brief) and how they handled the press, at that time. ("How can I answer to that? I don't know, I've never seen it!" would become Agnetha's most-recognized [naive] reply to questions/comments about her asset.)
Worthy of mention are: the "I'm a Marionette" choreography & editing; Benny's piano solo (was that the "Intermezzo No.1"?); all the concert footages, as the sound quality is astonishingly superb and the camera angles captured ABBA's facial expressions and sweats wonderfully; scenes showing how the journalist edited interviews on the tape reels (an out-dated technology); among other things. The taxi driver segment towards the end is hilariously precious (and the BEST part of the film, IMO), as it practically sums up the performance (from the viewpoint of the public: both the Australian concert-goers and viewers of this feature film alike, I'm sure, as we all have the same "viewing angle" of what was being referred to. LOL.)
All of these leading to a comment from a young girl: "There's nothing special about them, really. They're just humans. (Pause). Except their music. That's special." (Awwww) This is followed by Lasse's genius edit of "Thank You for the Music". It's brilliant. And as with most Lasse Hallstrom feature works, there is this feel-good sentimentality ("straght from/to the heart") to it.
There is a nice interview (Bonus section of the disc) with Lasse, Benny, and Bjorn. As always, Benny is so positive, candid, humble, and likeable. But wasn't it Bjorn who reportedly has memory problem? So why would Benny recall (oddly) that it was "Frida" who topped the show?! Hope that was not intentional, Benny. Or you will lose a lot of credibility, from this viewer/fan. Hee.
