Movie Review: Aaron Rosand Rocks My World
Summary: 5 Stars
I have always thought very highly of Aaron Rosand and his legacy. I first started listening to his recordings when I was about 14 and consider them some of the best ever done of both the standard and nonstandard repertoire. This particular account of his life was fascinating - and it expounds upon the aspect of Rosand not being a household name violinist. I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. The film shows him not only performing but teaching - and not surprisingly, he is a fine teacher. There is very little other footage out there of Rosand actually *speaking* about his marvelous career, and after many years of listening to his fine recordings, it is great to hear The Man Himself talk about his life. I wish I could have studied with him; I'd be a better violinist today for sure. Like Milstein, Rosand is still playing well, into his 80s. The pieces performed include the Bach Chaconne, 2nd mvt. of Brahms d minor sonata, 3rd movement of Franck Sonata, and Brahms Contemplation. Highly recommended for any violinist - especially those who have yet to discover this magnificent artist, also known as 'the last great romantic' (of the violin world.)
