Movie Review: A Glimpse Into Diversity And Kindred Hearts
Summary: 5 Stars
I found this movie beyond entertainment. I enjoyed the writing and the acting that gave us a glimpse into the lives of this young female detective who had created a hard exterior. She found herself in the midst of a society, a people whose ways caused her to soften and question many things. The audience has a chance to peek into the very heart of this Hassidic Jewish community as she investigates a disappearance of one of its members and diamonds. We not only learn about some Jewish tradion and teachings, which are most interesting and informative, but also into the lives of some police officers and even into the criminals. I found this movie not only full of drama and suspense but also humanity. I appreciated how it took us through the story with action and suspence while never losing the richness of what makes us all unique and yet all the same. One of my favorite parts is when the detective (Melanie Griffith)is ashamed when the Rebbe compares his experience in the holocaust with her own on the streets. One of my favorite quotes is "Ariel can look down at the stars." The language, the imagary, the music, the entire package of this movie makes it worth seeing. I suppose some might read my review and think "chick's flick" but it is not only that. I think this movie has something for everyone. I believe this is a movie that did not get the attention or praise it should have! I recommend it highly!Movie Review: The film that changed my life

Some years ago I watched this film during a brus trip from Oviedo to Barcelona and it changed my life in a radical and most wonderful way. It discovered me the _bashert_ (= destiny, our other half) reality and Jewish life. It helped me to understand that meaning and warm are still available in the world. It introduce me the reality I have always dreamed to discover. So I have no words to express what this superb film did for me. A very respectful and interesting look at life amoung the Hassid. This film is filled with intrigue while also dealing with the struggles of the heart and with ones religious convictions. Melanie Griffith does an excellent job portraying the difficulties of understanding customs in a way of life which is unfamiliar to her. This movie is a great detective story but more importantly it is about how the warmth of the Hasidic Jewish)culture changes a hardened New York City detective(Melanie Griffith). It is also a romance, but not the one you would expect. The acting is excellent,and the insight into the Hasidic culture is fascinating. "A Stranger Among Us" is one of my Top Five Favorite Films. If you read the description of the movie on the box or in most of the reviews, you will not know anything about this movie. What is is really about is the Love of God's people for Him and their love for each other. When I watch it, it encourages me to be kinder, more loving, more relaxed, more cerebral. -- M.T.
