Movie Review: Powerful and Moving
Summary: 4 Stars
'A Perfect World' is a movie I saw years ago when it was first released and stayed with me. It would pop to the forefront of my mind in the oddest of circumstances. I thought it was just the image of a child in a Casper the Friendly Ghost costume roaming the countryside that made the film memorable, but upon seeing it again last week I realized that as interesting as that image is to me, 'A Perfect World' is simply a very well crafted movie.Costner is in rare form (I havent seen as good a performance from him since 'Dances With Wolves') and the child actor has given us one of the truest depictions of childhood in years. The story itself asks questions such as what makes us who we are, is it possible to change, what is the emotional impact of violence, why do we judge people and questions the ligitamacy of sacrifice. The movie has a slow and languid pace to let these questions develop but you're never beaten over the head by them. Most everything in 'A Perfect World' is understated. I like that in a movie but it can slow things down a bit. Also, as great as Eastwood is in the movie, I felt this was a role he has played so many times over the years that he could do it in his sleep. I wanted to see him tackle something a bit different.
This DVD presentation features a very crisp image (widescreen only) and enveloping sound. The movie has been digitally remastered and you'll probably never see a better print of it. Bonus wise, you only get a few sketchy actors bios and a threatrical trailer. This allows the film to stand on it's own and allows the viewer to come to their own conclusions. A great presentation of a movie that I'm sure will continue to pop to the forefront of my mind in the unlikliest of situations for years to come.
Movie Review: a must see

This is one of my favourites of all time.i dont realy know why but i like it.
it is about a man(costner) who with another inmate escape from jail. In the process of escaping butch (costner) kidnaps a small boy as a hostage sort of thing. as they travel accross the states, being chased by sheriff Clint Eastwood butch and boy form a bond.
As the movie turns into a buddy movie we never loose sight of the fact that Butch is a criminal and being tracked down but we dont seem to care. the boy is in need of a father figure and we want to see more of their relationship.
We never see much of a bad side of costners character and yet we are aware that he has his priorities straight. With a nice little twist at the end you cant help but wonder after the film
"what if?"
make this one of your favourites.
Movie Review: Wonderful and Touching

I've already given up on three distinctly different reviews for this movie. So I'll stop wasting my day and just say . . . what a great, great movie. It speaks volumes about childhood, fatherhood, violence, and the responsibilities of men. Certainly the best I've ever seen from Costner, and I realize that's not saying much, but for the first time I can recall, he actually IS his character. Enough's been said about how good a movie A Perfect World is. I give it 5 stars because it is a touching story of an escaped convict bonding with a young boy who, at his age, needs a father to look up to. In this day and age where divorce runs rampant and single parents are a dime a dozen, this movie definitely strikes a cord.The day this movie gets to DVD, that's when it will be "A Perfect World".

Other reviewers have written well regarding this movie, so I will simply add that I, a father of three boys, watch this film every father's day. It means alot to me for reasons that are hard to express. This film serves as a reminder that we often experience love and moments of grace in the most unlikely circumstances, and that kindred spirits can and do reach out to one another across seemingly impenetrable barriers. Do yourelf a favor and watch this film as soon as possible.
