Movie Reviews of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 - Freddy's RevengeMovie Review: Average Summary: 3 StarsNightmare on elm street 2 is you average joe blow horror sequel in which the only thing that has anything to do with the orginal is the anti-hero Freddy kruger and the house in the orginal movie. however, the concept is well thought out. It just never was able to take off
Movie Review: Just when you thought it was safe to sleep Summary: 2 StarsJesse Walsh is the new kid on Elm Street, living in the familiar house of past-owner Nancy Thompson. Just like Nancy did, Jesse has horrible nightmares of a horribly burnt man with knives for fingers. As the dreams intensify, Jesses' personality begins to change as Freddy Krueger begins to take over the poor boys' body. Soon he becomes possessed and has urges to kill. Now Jesse, with the help of his female friend must find out how to banish this night-stalker back down to Hell, or the history of the murders on Elm Street will start again.
I have to say I really didn't like this movie. I gave it a chance, but wasn't satisfied with what it presented. First of all Nancy was nowhere to be seen in this movie. Also, it has stupid things that wouldn't scare a three year-old, Birds going crazy? Come on! anyone could write better then that. Secondly, Freddys' make-up looks more like wrinkles then burns. The movie just goes from bad to worse. The first one was great, scary, and suspenseful. This one accomplished nothing but boring it's audience. One of the most outragious muck-ups was the ending. Freddy somehow comes into the real world and still has his powers. Not suppose to happen, Freddy has no powers in the real world, only the dream world. This confuses and anoys the audience more then anything else. I actually read that the writers had no idea that Freddys' powers only worked in the Dream World, perhaps they should have done their research. The acting was okay, but Jesse was just annoying and girlish. He screamed, moaned and did nothing to help his girlfriend Lisa get rid of the monster inside him. It seemed a subplot was about Jesse exploring and questioning his sexuality.
Perhaps the biggest let-down of this film was the gore level. I only remember seeing little blood and all about two deaths, none of them remotely interesting, making the movie even more unwatchable.
If the first 'Nightmare' is the only one you've seen and you want more, skip this one and go watch the third installment, a great movie that won't let you down. You don't even need to see the second to understand the third.
Overall, things that didn't make sense, girlish characters, no gore, and silly pointless scenes add up to a bad movie.
Skip this and go to the awsome third movie in this series, titled 'A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.'
Movie Review: A really great horror/slasher film! Summary: 5 StarsJack Sholder did an excellent job on this film. Fred or Freddy Krueger is still extremely sadistic in this installment to the original one. In fact he's like the same exact Freddy from the first one except he's not in the dark anymore, he's very out in the open in this one. The special effects were quite good, not excellent of course, but good. Also the second NOES installment has a higher body count than any of the other films. Even though the first NOES is still best one in the series. This film really shaped Freddy Krueger into what he would become known as in the later sequels. This film contains a lot of graphic violence and gore, and Freddy is scary as hell in this film. It's the exact same Freddy from the first one, except he's not in the dark anymore. This is the first NOES film where we get to see Freddy completely out in the open. Anyway here's what the movie is about. Freddy Krueger was sent back to Hell by Nancy played by Heather Legenkamp, who is in my opinion a very hot looking girl. Five years later after she moves out of the Krueger house, a new family moves in, The Walsh family. The Walsh family has no idea what demonic being is lurking in their house. Also their son Jesse is being tormented by Freddy every night in his dreams. Eventually he gets possessed by Freddy Krueger, and ends up doing his evil deeds, even though he doesn't want to. Can the boy be able to overcome Freddy, or will he end up losing his soul to him. Great special effects, good plot, decent acting, make this one the third best in the series after Dream Warriors.
Mark Patton's portrayal of Jesse Walsh is rather weak and whiny; he cries and moans more than any of the girls that took on Freddy in every other "NOES" movie. "Freddy's Revenge" also has an undercurrent of overt homosexual undertones (naked towel torture, leather bar encounters, strong old gym teacher taking on a weak underling) that will unfortunately be used by people that don't like the movie to bash it as being gay. Seen as an early and misguided attempt to carry on the Freddy Krueger legacy without the leadership of "NOES" creator Wes Craven (who had no involvement with "Freddy's Revenge" whatsoever) this is a rather fun and unpretentious slasher film. The mechanical special effects are excellent throughout (seeing Jesse `give birth' to Freddy or spewing a miles-long tongue is still quite a sight to see), and when the acting falls through we can at least count on Robert Englund to carry the film on his well-endowed Freddy Krueger shoulders.
This is the only "NOES" sequel besides "Wes Craven's New Nightmare" that still held on to a Freddy Krueger persona that was more interested in hurting teens and being a bad-ass than in performing stand-up comedy. Homosexual undertones notwithstanding (??!!) I find "Freddy's Back" to actually be a worthy follow-up to Wes Craven's original masterpiece; what it lacks in myth building or extraordinary set-pieces the movie compensates for with slick and gruesome special effects. Too bad the meager bonus features fail to match the top-notch quality of "NOES 2's" video and audio transfers. Overall it's a must see if you really love horror films and/or NOES film series.
Movie Review: interesting story Summary: 5 Starsjust as sick and twisted and funny as the first
see this
it will creep you out just as much as the first one did
like the part in this one where freddy comes out of Jesse's body. sick and disgusting. i'll never eat food while watching that part again. never. truly a shocking follow up. glad I have this on dvd
Movie Review: Helloooo Freddy Krueger is a DREAM stalker... Summary: 2 StarsOkay. Here's a little story. One night, a pre-teen girl couldn't fall asleep. So she skimmed through the movie channels to find some boring movie to put her to sleep. She came across the title "A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge". "Hm," thought the girl, "The first one gave me nightmares. This one has to be scarier, so maybe I shouldn't watch it. Nah, I'm gonna watch it..." and she watched it. She wasn't satisfied.
That girl is me. I really really don't like this movie.
It's about a boy named Jesse who, along with his family, move into the Thompson house. But along with the house came the dream demon, yes folks, Freddy Krueger. Freddy, for some reason, wants to take control of Jesse and posess him, and come into the real world.
PRESS THE PAUSE BUTTON. Freddy Krueger is a DREAM stalker. Not a REAL LIFE stalker. That basically throws the plot of the first one, along with the searies, out the window.
But along with a terrible plot came everything else. The acting! OH MY GOODNESS. I was very disappointed and started to get VERY annoyed. Jesse's actor (I dont even want to know who) was just...ugh...and Lisa just cried to whole time. She didn't scream. The Special FX were really bad, like a cheesy, corney, intro. That looked really fake. The only effect I noticed really, was when Freddy bursts out of Jesse (*cough* Alien rip off *cough*)
The only saving grace of this movie was the fact that it came out of the 80s, and it was an 80s feature. So it belonged. But nowadays, it doesn't. I'll give it that.
But there are more tidbits, such as the fact that it isn't scary. The deaths are not scary. Not at all. The dumb nightmare illusions aren't scary. Oh yeah, I forgot, seeing bugs come out of a girl's cut is SO scary <--- Sarcasm. Ah yes, did anyone notice that Freddy doesn't really look like he's wearing a glove half the time? Actually half the time, he justh as blades on his fingers. Ugh...
Well, I know I sound like I'm ranting, but just skip this movie. It's like a filler, it's not important.
