Movie Reviews of A Man and a WomanMovie Review: ON DVD... AT LONG LAST! Summary: 5 Stars
Despite their ongoing commitment to second-rate DVD packaging Warner Brothers deserves a pat on the pack for this Widescreen DVD release which features a circa 2003 interview with Claude Lelouch and an original 1966 documentary. The documentary from '66 could have been dropped although I suppose for completeness sake it belongs on the disc. The transfer is very nice and although that horrid English dubbed language track still survives on this disc it is mercifully only an option to be considered as opposed to the only option you've got which was the case on the VHS release. Let's just hope the even-better sequel A Man And A Woman: 20 Years Later is not far behind! The characters had chemistry in the first one but they lacked brains, insight, and confidence, in the sequel, they have finally hit their peak as individuals and as a couple!
Movie Review: An Artistically Good Movie Summary: 5 Stars
The movie details a widow and a widower looking for romance by a chance of encountering one another. Both are dealing with the loss of a spouse. The movie goes back and forth into time as to how their spouses have died and she has this image of him being a pimp when he doesn't go into detail about his career. He doesn't want to instill fear into her. She lost her husband on a movie set. One minute the movie is in black and white. The next minute, it's in color, like their love for each other. It may seem boring to some viewers because they expect something more dramatizing to happen or some sort of sexual tension and passion which is not what the movie is about. The movie without the excessiveness was just fine and easy to watch. I wasn't bored watching the movie. The fashion and makeup of the sixties was cool.
Movie Review: just like old vintage Summary: 5 Stars
I never watched this movie before, loved the music score from paul mauriat collection.
I finally got a copy of this movie and watch it with my wife, the movie is not about plot but it is about mannerism, a great study of human, man and woman, how they react to the situation of love in their own circumstances, in this case it's hers as a widow and his widower.
Don't look for great plot, drama story line. Just enjoy for the speaking dialog, the eyes, the smiles, the mannerism and the children who are watching their own parents being drawn to each other.
I would watch this movie again because there are so much little details to be missed at the first time.
Just like old wine, you got to take time and attention to enjoy it fully.
Movie Review: Your true love CAN read your mind Summary: 5 Stars
I first watched this French film at 19 and it was gut wrenching for me. The fact that both were widowed (and thus free to marry) seemed to represent the promise of a new love after loss. Unfortunatley, Anouk Aimee's character was still haunted by a love from beyond the grave - her late husband - and therefore, the affair was doomed. It's tragic and bittersweet and a lesson: DO NOT begin a new love affair unless you are complete and at peace with the old one. Given that both characters had lost their spouses (instead of divorced) there was only an internal barrier with the widow that prevented the love from becoming more than it was. A real window into what is possible when you are not able to move on despite all evidence that you should.
Movie Review: often misunderstood "feelgood" classic Summary: 5 Stars
Reading so many overblown reviews disappoints, and fails me to comprehend the essence of simple pleasure ignored. With the sardonic overtures of variant sub-themes, this vehicle of love's momentum blends ample feelings of love and angst with a melodic backdrop that mesmorizes. How sad that those "in the know" are precluded from simply feeling the velvet caress of their hearts and leaving a theater with an optimal thought for their futures. For those who wish to avoid the pitfalls of overzealous critics and touch the corners of self-fulfillment and loving overtures, this film continues to satiate the true quest for loving caress. For those who continue their search for love, this story will help lead the way.
