Movie Reviews of A Little RomanceMovie Review: Teenage love, and in Paris and Venice, too! Summary: 5 Stars
Paris and Venice are two of the most often called "romantic" cities in the world, and here is a film that sets out to prove it. Of course, being a teenager and (either the boy or the girl) having extra money to spend, are two things that help push the romanticism along. What really carries the movie, however, is the fast-paced camera work and the charming personalities of the leads. Two love-stricken youngsters who never bicker, get along fabulosly on all situations, resolve all problems by talking, and have a "fairy godfather" hovering for protection over them at all times, gives you a warm feeling througout the movie.
Movie Review: A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes... Summary: 5 Stars
Boy meets girl. Girl meets boy. Girl and Boy fall in love. Simple, basic plot, huh?
Into the equation, add: very young girl and boy, add Paris and Venice, add sincerity, warmth and sincerity, youthful enthusiasm and the cutest couple in recent years (a Partridge in a Pear Tree is optional).
Was I ever that young and hopeful? I doubt it very much, but I feel like I am, every time I watch this film. Watching and "visiting" with Sir Laurence Oliver (the old Con Man) is a treat and a pathway embeded with emotional rememberances of years gone by.
A Beautiful Film...
Movie Review: An overlooked gem Summary: 5 Stars
Diane Lane's first film, "A Little Romance," came and went in 1979 with little fanfare. It deserves far more. Her role as a 12-year-old living with her wonderful stepfather, corporate executive Arthur Hill, and star-gazing, insufferable mother Sally Kellerman, is superb. Into Diane's life comes a 12-year-old French boy and a senior citizen played by Laurence Olivier. The mixture, including the "legend" of "the Bridge of Sighs" in Venice, will sweep the viewer away. At its best, a film will take the viewer away from his or her daily cares. Few do a better job than "A Little Romance."
Movie Review: My new favorite... Summary: 5 Stars
I watched this movie for the very first time tonight and was left wanting more. I whole heartedly give this movie two thumbs up. Diane Lane gives, in my opinion, her finest performance. I was surprised to read that her co-star, Thelonious Bernard, never went on to have a film career in France. He was amazing and their onscreen chemistry was perfect. Such a great love story for all ages, young and old. I only wish they had a present day sequel so that I could see them living happily ever after!!!
Movie Review: A MOVIE FOR LIFE Summary: 5 Stars
I went to watch this movie with a friend of mine, I was 16 years old. Coming out of the movie hall, I went straight to the manager's room and requested him to give me a Poster/picture from the display board. He refused saying that its a property of the Distributor. In India I did not find a CD/DVD of this film. I am 42 now, in USA, and the first DVD that I bought is A LITTLE ROMANCE.I feel like watching it at least once a month, if not more. Portrayal of teenage love in this movie is unparalleled.
