Movie Reviews of A Letter to Three Wives

Movie Review: Entertaining drama, well acted and directed
Summary: 4 Stars

The framework for this witty period piece is a letter written to three wives by the mysterious Addie Ross (whom we never see in the movie) stating that she's left town and taken one of their husbands.

All three have their insecurities about their own marriages and reason to believe their husband is the one who has bolted. In separate flashbacks we see the personal dynamics of each three relationships.

The writing is often witty though the humor is understated. It doesn't rank as a classic but it's still several steps above the usual rubbish we see today.

Movie Review: Post-War America on the Domestic Front
Summary: 4 Stars

This movie represents the "country-club set" of post war America and I enjoyed it, having grown up in that era. I liked seeing the kitchen with the Guardianware Service on the stove and the curtains like all the wives had.

I think Hollywood at the time this movie was made liked "tough talk" dialogue between the sexes as being "cool" and this dates the movie, but it is well acted and holds your interest. Linda Darnell is beyond beautiful!

Movie Review: Great Quality
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this for an "old" friend that wore out his VHS tape. I was amazed at the B&W quality image of a 1949 Academy award winner.

I didn't care much for the story, but I didn't watch it all either.

My wife did and she liked it.

I think it is a chick movie in disguise.

Movie Review: A Letter to three Wives
Summary: 4 Stars

I love this movie, but I still can't figure out when left with who. If you like comedy, drama and little mystery, you will love this movie. A young Jeanne Crain is the star of this movie, but they are some great looking ladies in this movie, and for you ladies and a young and dashing Kirk Douglas.

Movie Review: A Letter to Three Wives
Summary: 4 Stars

A very funny movie of the 50's-60's, with a strong cast. Dated, of course, but still funny, especially a scene with Linda Darnell and Paul Douglas kissing in her house by the railroad tracks with a train thundering by.
