Movie Reviews of A Home of our OwnMovie Review: TERRIFIC FAMILY FLICK Summary: 5 Stars
I love this movie! Kathy Bates is such a terrific actress, and this film really lets her show off! The movie should be viewed with family. It shows all you need to make it to your dream is hard work, determination, and the love of your family. The Lacey Tribe (Bates and her children) move across the states to find A home of their own, but really a new beginning. And they are dirt poor. One of the saddest moments in the movie is when they open their Christmas gifts, and receive a hammer, nails, everything for their home that their mother is determined to build for them. It really goes to show you that you shouldn't take everyday things for granted. Has a great story from start to finish. The ending is terrific as well. GET THE DVD! Its worth it!
Movie Review: Great movie... back off conservative people! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a wonderful film and yet another great performance by Kathy Bates. The picture and sound quality on the DVD are exceptional.
I'd like to point out how annoyed I am with the three or four Disney folk that gave the movie a one or two star rating just because of the language. First of all, the movie is rated PG (PARENTAL GUIDANCE). Hello overprotective parents or militant religious folk, look at the MPAA rating and screen the film first if you insist on blocking reality from your kids!
Here's a reality check: your kids are going to hear that kind of language in the real world. Get over it!
Movie Review: The best family movie you'll see Summary: 5 Stars
Kathy Bates is one of Hollywood's greatest actresses and provides her outstanding preformance in this hard drama showing how she deals with six kids as she is a widower in Idaho recentily moved from Los Angeles and tries to make her kids forget the life they currently live in and think of the house they will live in the near future, with the help of the priest and other great supporting roles, this emotional family drama shows exactly what other families deal with and whats the outcome, they worked hard and live now in a better home. One of my favourite family movies of all time, Kathy Bates shines. 10/10.
Movie Review: Honest Movie, not G rated Summary: 5 Stars
I Absolutely loved this movie and am glad I put it on my wish list and received it this Christmas. I love Kathy Bates as she seems to do movies with depth and she really shows the true character of a mom trying to survive the best she can given her circumstances. Yes there are some scenes that would raise your eyebrows so it's not for young kids if you want a G rating, but I'd say appropriate for preadolescent ages in which you could talk about a few scenes. This was perfect to watch, especially during the Christmas season when we can be enlightened at what some people do without.
Movie Review: My Favorite Movie Summary: 5 Stars
I have always loved Kathy Bates movies. This particular one I saw years ago, before it was ever available on video or DVD. When I got my computer one of the first things I did was search for 'A Home of our own'. I wanted to share it with my kids. It is a very humbling movie, and Kathy played the role extremely well. I come from a poor home of 9 children. We were only homeless once, when our house burnt down, but we were able to stay with family. So I guess I related well with the characters and story line. A+ movie and I would recomend it!!!
