This movie RoCkEd!! I just LOVE to listen to The Beatles sing their songs! (Sighs), Isn't just seeing them playing their instruments, such as John playing his wonderful hermonica and sing just dreamy?

FAVORITE LINES:

All: Who's that little old man?

George: Sorry we hurt your field, Mister.

Paul: HEY, MISTER, CAN WE HAVE OUR BALL BACK?!

Beatles: Hey, Mister! Mister! Can we have our ball back?! Look, Mister! Mister!

Ringo: Ah, you pick on your own.

John: You're a swine, isn't he, George?
George: Yeah, a swine.

John: What's the matter with you, there?
Ringo: It's his grandfather - I can tell he doesn't like me - It's 'cause I'm little.

Ringo: I'm going parading before it's too late.

Shake: He has been gone a long time.
Norm: Who?
Shake: Paul's Grandfather.
Norm: Oh, I didn't notice. Where did he go?
Shake: Down the, uh...

Movie Review: These guys wore suits
Summary: 5 Stars

The world was so stuffy back in 1964, plans for the movie included 30 matching suits for each of the Beatles: a total of 120 suits for the tailors to keep cleaned and pressed. A scene in "A Hard Day's Night" in which a man in his underwear is hiding in the closet because Paul's grandfather borrowed his suit to go to an invitation-only private club casino helps capture the clothes consciousness that sets the fashion world spinning to an invisible beat which finds its back beat at the point where John Lennon can't help ceremoniously clipping a tailor's measuring tape with a sissors, quipping, "I now declare this bridge open," in a rush of backstage activities that was scripted to match the hectic rush of entertainment mentalities in real life. What it all comes down to is reflected upon best by George Martin, who said that when he told them, "We need some more songs for the movie," the Beatles started writing songs that were greater than anyone had a right to expect. For people who lived in the 1960s, this movie was like the invention of the human in a pop society that had been too far out to reach the big screen before, but which could dominate the minds of those who were in the right place to catch the fun it generated. Watching the extras on the DVD ought to make you end up liking all the people who like this movie, which exudes that fondness in all directions.

Movie Review: We Love You Beatles!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

In the wake of Beatlemania, the Beatles could just have very well made a quickie rock film of little substance to cash in on their success before the bubble burst. The Beatles, smarter than that, did not want to make an "Elvis" movie. They were in it for the long run and were looking at their legacy. They contracted a top British playwright, Allen Owun, and hired a gifted director of comedies, Richard Lester, to craft what is probably the greatest rock 'n' roll movie and arguably one of the great screen comedies. In addition, contributions are made by a great cast of British comics (Wilfred Brambell, Norm Rossington, Victor Spinetti). With all these parts in place the question was whether could the Beatles themselves translate their lovable persona to the big screen. The answer is a resounding yes!!! Ostensibly, the story concerns the Beatles preparing for a television appearance in London while trying to simultaneously reign in Paul's mischievious grandfather. Really, the film is about the Beatles mocking their own persona and Beatlemania in particular. And what would the film be without great music. The Beatles crafted a great new set of classic songs specifically for this film. This film is still great forty years on so the Beatles obtained their objective. And I suspect that one-hundred years on people will still be viewing this film and not just as a time-capsule curiousity.

Movie Review: Greatest Musical of All Time
Summary: 5 Stars

Here's the band that started it all having the time of their life. Roger Ebert recently rated this film as one of his all time musicals and you will too.

I envy you if you have never seen "A Hard Days Night". That's right, I envy you, because after you watch this film for the first time you will be hooked...Repeat after me..."A Hard Days Night" is the greatest music film of all time.

When the Beatles made "A Hard Days Night", they were fresh off their America success, but the crushing world wide fame was still a few months away. The Beatles were still wide-eyed innocent youths who were poking fun at the whole show business world. This film was shot in early 1964 and released later that year. David Crosby quotes the film as inspiring him and other members of the Birds into forming a rock band.

Neat bits to look for in the film. The cute blonde on the train (Patty Boyd) would become George Harrison's first wife and Eric Clapton's later wife. Look for Phil Collins as a ten year old fan in the tv concert scene. John has a bit of fun reading his own book of poetry and making a reference to his favorite soft drink.

This film takes you on a wild ride inside the all too brief world of Beatlemania. It's great to have a film that I can share with my kids that's still as fresh and as fun as the day it premiered. Enjoy...

Movie Review: Simply Wonderful! Recommended.
Summary: 5 Stars

Video of extreme clarity. Audio in stereo. Both redone. I'm not an expert on DVD artifacts but none were apparent. All nuances and antics by the Fab Four, as The Beatles were sometimes called, are crystal clear. The Bonuses are great and explain a lot about the era, The Beatles, and others involved in the production of this film. It's sad that at least one project is missing from this DVD set, but in my opinion it does not detract from this set.

The DVD stands as a marvelous compilation of good, clean fun, with the worst being the cigarette smoking on the film which is kept to a minimum. Even the bonus interviews are full of positive praises for everyone involved.

Remember the party scene when The Beatles are then interviewed by the media? The hostesses would come by with a platter and just as each was about to reach for a sandwich, the hostess would walk away. It was their party and they just could not get a bite to eat! The film also includes some intelectual comedy understood only by mature audiences.

Everything considered, I found it to be a great DVD set. I highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys getting a glimpse on how one of the revolutions of the 60s was fueled to explode, the humanity of being a 'star', musicals, abstract comedy, art, fun, and the Fab Four at their finest in their first film. Fabulous!
