Movie Reviews of A Guy Thing

Movie Review: You get what you pay for.
Summary: 3 Stars

Contrary to the overly critical reviews posted on this site, this film is enjoyable. It is predictable, yes. But so are all the rest of the films in this genre. If you want the next Citizen Kane, then I'd question why you're looking for it in a contemporary Romantic Comedy.

That said the film is decidedly average. Jason Lee sets a different tone as the leading man. He's a joy to watch but seems slightly out of place throughout. He manages to pull it off in this film, but just barely. Julia Stiles was a good counter-point to Lee's charm. Her understated performance seemed to match Lee every step of the way. Together they almost make you believe some of the more unbelieveable aspects of the film. The soundtrack is quite nice as well. Filled with songs by some of the better rock groups around, such as Wilco and Spoon. As previously stated, the plot is rather predictable. However it is standard in the tradition of romantic comedies and shouldn't count against the film. It's an average film with that considered.

Movie Review: Pretty crude but funny too..
Summary: 3 Stars

is the best way to describe this film. None of the characters are very multi-dimensional and were it not for the language and a few parts of the subject matter, you would think you are viewing a television sitcom.

Much of the humor is obvious and sometimes the movie strains for credibility, but it was overall an entertaining film. There are some parts in it that show comedic genius, while others resort to the humor of fourth grade school children.

As a fan of Earl Nightingale, I was pleased to see a part of his famous work, "The Strangest Secret" in this movie. What was never made clear is why the character was listening to Seattle's "Dr. Earl" in the first place, or how it affected him. It was just sort of stuck in there for no real purpose.

Still, the movie has some real funny parts that make up for the others which are less than great.

Movie Review: It's not THAT bad
Summary: 3 Stars

The plot: Basically, Jason Lee is preparing to get married to Selma Blair until he meets Selma Balir's cousin (Julia Stiles). The whole movie revolves around Jason Lee trying to avoid Julia Stiles so Selma Blair doesn't think he has the hots for her cousin.

Okay, I admit the script was pretty weak in this movie, but that doesn't mean it wasn't funny. Personally, I liked a few of the jokes, and I got a good laugh out of this. Julia Stiles is what makes the movie watchable because she makes her character, Becky, interesting to watch. Basically, Stiles is what makes this movie watchable because she gets this movie rolling along.

All in all, if you were interested in seeing this movie, go ahead and rent it and see what you think. Just don't expect a lot from this movie, as with most movies out there.

Movie Review: Okay
Summary: 3 Stars

Jason Lee can be very funny, especially in movies such as "Clerks" and "Mallrats," but I felt that this venture just falls flat. It's not very funny, and like some past reviewers stated, it's very predictable.

The story revolves around a man who's about to get married. At his bachelor party, he meets a woman and spends the night with her. Later he finds out the woman he slept with is his fiance's cousin. The rest of the film is about his trying to decide if marrying his fiance is the right thing to do or if he should be with her carefree cousin.

"A Guy Thing" isn't the best movie in the world, but if you want to watch a (somewhat predictable) romantic comedy about a man who gets cold feet before his wedding and in turn finds the woman of his dreams, watch this one.

Movie Review: Get Over It!
Summary: 3 Stars

Ok, so it's not Oscar worthy material? I'm sure you saw the previews--it is what it is--a sweet movie about not going for what's safe. And come on--Julie Hagarty is hilarious-- Do not watch this movie if you're looking for something deeper--it's fun, sweet romantic fluff which we all need once & a while. The commentary is a lot of fun & you have to play the interactive quiz.
