Movie Reviews of A Clockwork Orange

Movie Review: The most perfect film ever
Summary: 5 Stars

This film is one of my favorites. Malcolm McDowell plays like a god a rapist, murderer and Betoween's music listener who is used as a laboratory rat for a weird experiment. This experiment has a good objective; stop McDowell's addiction to rape violence (and Betoween's music)...but it turns in a bad way when he realizes that everyone in his town hate him and beat him up(he then becomes sick for seeing violence in addition to the pain of the other's hits. He must hide somewhere, and he doesn't go at the right place....the atmosphere is so strange and pervert that you can't just call it a normal movie...the message is different from the message of the other movies about violence:Violence is not a good thing, that's sure, but there's always gonna be some violence and we can't do anything about that...the satire in this film is surely the strongest one I've seen, since I saw Dr.Strangelove (from the same director, Stanley''My God''Kubrick). This film is like having an overdose of strong and dissassociative drugs...incredibly excellent....a masterpiece!

Movie Review: Great but misunderstood film
Summary: 5 Stars

Being a highschool student I know lots of people that consider A Clockwork Orange to be a great film. As a matter of fact they consider it to be #$%@$# awesome! Sadly this has to be one of the most misunderstood films of all time, along with Fight Club. Although not all teens are like this many unfortunately are. When a film that questions government control over people, and what it means to be good is known for the scene in which that "chick gets raped" or "that old guy gets beat up" there's something wrong. Kubrick does a great job of pulling off a story that would turn off many people. The directing is impeccable as is the rest of the film. The DVD for the film doesn't quite live up to expectations. The picture quality is subpar and the sound is decent. For a film of such cultural value you would expect better. Hopefully the upcoming rerelease will be a little better.

Movie Review: A great movie loosely based on an even better book
Summary: 5 Stars

Kubrick did take a lot of freedom with his interpretation of Burgess's bizzare parable of a futuristic society dominated by chaos, but threatened even more by the extreme measures taken by a reformed government to control and eliminate crime. The garish costumes and haunting sound track add greatly to this masterpiece. Even the slowest student at an under-funded vocational school should be able to understand the message within the film. It is not hard to grasp, despite what other reviewers may have said. My only complaint is that Kubrick was never able to complete the audio commentary track for this disk, and that it was not released in an uncensored form. As far as I know, the full film has not been seen in the US since its theatrical release under an X rating. This is an excellent film that I would recommend to anyone.

Movie Review: Droogs Don't Run
Summary: 5 Stars

Stanley has created another fantastical world in 'A Clockwork Orange'. This movie has to be one of the best sci-fi movie in existence, though it is not recommended for sensitive audiences. Basically, Alex, the main character, is a youth heading in the wrong direction. A life or crime and rape finalizes in a murder which sends our Alex to prison. Eager to escape the walls that contain him, he manages to enroll as a guinea pig in a new procedure that is said to turn criminals into upright citizens (thus easing the already overcrowded prisons). After the completion of the procedure, he is set free in a world that is out for revenge...and he is helpless. The story ends in a very intelligent and humourous finale (watch to find out). This movie is original, intelligent, and should be viewed as a work of art and pure genious!

Movie Review: Classic satire
Summary: 5 Stars

Despite comments to the contrary, the version of Clockwork Orange on DVD is the original version. The differences in the ratings have more to do with revisions to the original MPAA codes and the passage of time more than anything else.

Kubrick's adaption of Burgess' novel is a sort of inverted Pygmalion. As brilliant as Burgess' novel (Burgess himself acknowledged the brilliance of Kubrick's film. He stated that Kubrick's film was a "radical remaking of my own novel" that was every bit as much Kubrick's as the source material was Burgess)is, the film brings some of the best sequences in the novel to life with stunning, brutal clarity and satiric wit.

Kubrick's most controversial film ( perhaps even more so than Lolita), this is a classic film that is a radical as mainstream cinema gets.
