Movie Reviews of A Christmas CarolMovie Review: A Christmas Carol Patrick Stewart Summary: 5 Stars
I think this is the best of the Christmas Carol movies I have seen. It is very true to the book, carries the English accent, and Scrooge is played to perfection. I am a gifted facilitator for middle school students. The 6th grade reads and watches one of the simplified versions, but the 7th grade studies the writing of Dickens and his background. We study his style and why he chose this style. This movie version is perfect for the final phase of studying Charles Dickens and his writings.
Movie Review: A classic and wonderful rendition Summary: 5 Stars
Indeed, this manifestation of Dickens' cherished work is simply wonderful; the acting, set design, and overall atmosphere are all superb. In particular, the acting is of exceptional quality, with several notable performances -- not the least of which being Patrick Stewart as Scrooge! Bottom line, this is a heartwarming rendition of a great tale, and should be seen by any fan of the story, Patrick Stewart, and/or good English acting!
Great stuff! Happy Holidays!
Movie Review: Great! Summary: 5 Stars
The Alastair Sim version has been my favorite Christmas Carol movie for years but since seeing this Patrick Stewart version I think it's just as good and is now at a tie with the Sim version for my favorite version of A Christmas Carol and Patrick Stewart is just as good as that old miser Ebenezer Scrooge as Alastair Sim was. I also suggest the George C. Scott Christmas Carol movie which is another fine version. I own all three movies on DVD and I think each version is worthy!
Movie Review: Another Retelling? Summary: 5 Stars
I was leery of another retelling of a classic that i have enjoyed on the stage and yet I was stunned by what i saw.
Patrick Stewart IS Scrooge, his long time experience in a one man show has perfected his Scrooge down to the gruff bah humbug and the rusty old man cackle. Pure Enjoyment is as close to how i feel about this movie.
Not since the theater days have i found a Scrooge worthy of the part and here is one that shines above all others.
Movie Review: Patrick Stewart in A Christmas Carol Summary: 5 Stars
This is, by far, the finest perfomance of Dickens' Christmas Carol. The entire cast, including and especially Mr. Stewart uses Dickens' dialogue along with correct for the period slang and expressions in such an incredibly immersive way. The finest example of the great, under praised talent in this film is Stewart's throaty growl of the familiar "Bah, humbug!". It was so good the first time, I put it right back on for an encore screening. Great film!!!
