Movie Reviews of A Christmas CarolMovie Review: One of the best Summary: 5 Stars
While growing up, my family and I had only one major Christmas tradition. That was to watch some form or another of "A Christmas Carol". Out of all of the different versions I have been exposed to, I was never more moved than by this one. The acting is spectacular. The story is told with grace and elegance. The visuals are monumental. This is, without a doubt, the best version of the classic I have ever seen.
My family now has a new tradition. We watch a version of "A Christmas Carol" before Christmas, and then we watch this one on Christmas.
Movie Review: An Amazing Adaptation!! Summary: 5 Stars
Patrick Stewart brings an amazing complexity to one of literature's most recognizable characters. Not only that, I would argue, that this is one of the best filmed adaptations of Dickens's classic story. I was worried how he would handle the transition, from his spoken word only portrayal of the story (that is available on audio cd and also highly reccomended) - but Stewart classically trained acting skills shine. This is a must have for every Dickens fan. It has become a tradition, in my home, to watch this each year on Christmas Eve.
Movie Review: Wonderful! Worth owning!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This Christmas, I watched all versions I could find of "A Christmas Carol," trying to find a version that I could add to my holiday movies. This one takes the cake! The special effects are wonderful, and Patrick Stewart plays a very believable Scrooge. His acting is superb!! The settings were well done, and the other actors did awesome jobs. Nothing was cheezy or fake... This rates number one on my Christmas list of movies!... right there with White Christmas and Miracle on 34th st with Natalie Wood. Well, worth the money!!
Movie Review: THE BEST "CAROL" OF ALL! Summary: 5 Stars
Of all the adaptations ever made of Charles Dickens' immortal classic, this TNT adaptation from 1999 is by far the best of the translations. The story resonates as it never before has on screen. Patrick Stewart gives one of the finest performances of his carrer. His Ebenezer Scrooge is totally believable, and Stewart manages to bring out the humanity below the anger. The supporting cast is also fantastic, and the visual effects and storytelling are exceptional. Fans of the Dickens' masterpiece will not be disappointed!
Grade: A+
Movie Review: A Hard Won "Best" Scrooge Summary: 5 Stars
After many, many years of enjoying George C. Scott as my favorite Scrooge, Patrick Stewart has won me over. I enjoyed his performance on TV, however I did not realize the wonder of his version of Scrooge until I watching the DVD version. Obviously, his time spent on his 1-man show version of A Christmas Carol paid off as this performance is just plain brilliant. Bill Murray may win the all-time comic Scrooge in Scrooged, but Mr. Stewart wins the overall best Scrooge award here. A MUST own for any fan of A Christmas Carol.
