Movie Review: The Last Chance Before Disaster
Summary: 4 Stars

It's September 1944, and with "D-day" already 3 months behind them and winter just 3 months in front of them, the Allies are anxious to accelerate their advance on the Germans. In northern Europe, the battle lines run through Belgium near the border with the Netherlands. It appears to be the perfect time to deploy their airborne army made up of British and American troops.

A plan is hurriedly struck: the Allies - using parachutes and thousands of gliders - are going to drop tens of thousands of troops, equipment, and vehicles along a 63 mile (100 kilometer) road from the Belgium border to a bridge that crosses the Rhine river in Arnheim near the German border. The airborne army will secure the bridges, while a ground army - starting from Belgium - races up to join them.

General Browning (not his real name) is responsible for the execution of operation Market Garden. He calls together his commanders, spells out the mission, and tells them they have 7 days to prepare.

A few days before September 17th, reports from the Arnheim Dutch underground begin to trickle in about recent German deployments in the area. General Browning dismisses the reports, but one of his officers convinces him to send in an aircraft to check it out.

It seems part of human nature, that once you have made up your mind, it is difficult to change it. General Browning believes in the plan, he has a personal investment in it, but then, when pictures come back showing the situation is not as he thought ... watch his face as he struggles to find a way to discount this contrary information ...

Picture (Blue-ray): 4. Sound: The music is much louder than the voice track.

Movie Review: Very good
Summary: 4 Stars

Still the best made war movie of all time, just not an allied victory so it never got its' due. The Bluray version has better sound quality than the conventional one, but the picture isn't vastly improved so you can live without the Bluray if need be.

Movie Review: Good Copy
Summary: 4 Stars

Nice reproduction. It was originally filmed in great quality. Not real sure if the Blue-ray version is that much better. I viewed it on a 720p 42" LCD. But the price made it worth it.

Movie Review: A Great Classic War Movie
Summary: 4 Stars

An excellent movie to watch over and over again. Blue-Ray quality isn't at its best, picture looks faded and lack of contrast. If you already have the DVD copy, don't need to buy again.

Movie Review: Monumental Movie Let Down By Fox. Should Be "A Fee Too Far".
Summary: 3 Stars

I hate to rate this movie as three stars being that it's one of the greatest war movies ever made, but I have a real issue with Fox. First off, they are the most expensive BD's of all the studios and secondly, they omit all of the special features enjoyed on previous DVD versions. Instead of maxing out a BD50 disc with the MPEG2 codec, it would be great to use what other studios employ, namely VC-1 and utilising the extra space for special features. Fox charge at least $10 more for their titles in part probably due to the extra security measures they insist on using. The movie itself is not best conversion to Blu-ray I have seen and can seem a little too soft focused for the most part, but the the actual film is first class with one of the largest star lists I have ever seen including Sean Connery, Gene Hackman, Anthony Hopkins and just too many to mention. If only Fox could just get their act together and treat movies like this, The Battle Of Britain, Master & Commander, Kingdom Of Heaven and others with the respect they deserve.
