Movie Reviews of A Beautiful Mind

Movie Review: A Beautiful Mind
Summary: 5 Stars

This could be the most well-made, well-written, and well-acted film ever put on the screen. It certainly deserved the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Ron Howard's "A Beautiful Mind" is a classic story of redemption. It shows beauty where beauty is hard to find. It makes you have hope. Russel Crowe plays John Forbes Nash as perfectly as possible. He brings out the most intence emotion that I have ever seen in a performance. You can truly belive the horror of mental illness that his character suffers and he absolutely demands that you sympathize with him. The deep emotions of this movie are intensified by Crowe's co-stars Jennifer Connelly (Alicia de Landa) and Ed Harris (William Parcher). Connelly plays Nash's loving and supportive wife who helps him through his ordeal. Without her it is clear that Nash would not have survived. On the opposite side is William Parcher, portrayed by Ed Harris. He is in some ways the main antagonist of the story, encouraging Nash's hallucinations.

Director Ron Howard delivers yet again another brilliant story. The unique style to his movies is very pronounced in this. He also deserved his Award for Best Director (2001). Howard makes you feel as if you're really there suffering along side of Nash and his family.

So I reccomend this film to anyone who likes stories of terrible devastation and finally redemption.

I give this film 5 stars for it's Brilliant Directing, Superb Acting, and Strong Story.

Movie Review: Beautifully Moving

Beautiful Mind, A (2001) ***** |C--138 min.| D: Ron Howard. Russell Crowe, Jenifer Connelly, Ed Harris, Paul Bettany, Adam Goldberg, Judd Hirsch, Anthony Rapp, Jason Grey-Stanford, Josh Lucas, Christopher Plummer. PG-13

An amazing triumph of a film about the life of famous mathematician, John Forbes Nash, Jr. (Crowe) and his battle with paranoid schizophrenia. It is both Ron Howard's and Russell Crowe's masterpiece. An absolute genius of a film. Crowe's performance is excellent. He captures the brilliance and the madness of the man he is portraying and adds the third dimension to his character, creating a moving and truly amazing performance, almost as good as Meryl Streep in SOPHIE'S CHOICE. There is not a bad moment in this film, and the movie keeps its audience captivated from beginning to end. There is a surprise around every corner, and it never dulls. The movie is a true work of art. It's a mystery, a thriller, a love story, a political thriller, a psychological horror film, all in one. Every character is crafted beautifully by Howard and his writer, Akiva Goldsman. The director's vision shines here. His use of highlights in the picture, and long, sweeping shots give this a surreal feeling like no other film. It's a touching, emotional journey full of gripping drama and an inspiring story to tell. To miss this would be a travesty. Won Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director (Ron Howard), Best Supporting Actress (Jenifer Connelly), and two others.

Movie Review: Great movie
Summary: 5 Stars

I only saw this movie because my boss told me that I was like John Nash ( I was a research chemist) and now retired. I have an IQ which fluctuate from idiot to genius and can solve problems no one else have been able to solve. I have an overactive imagination as well. My opinion of mathematicians is they sometimes confuse mathematics with reality. A mathematical equation is not reality like many mathematicians think it is. Its easy to get trapped into thinking it is. I am a conspiracy nut and sometimes read people wrong. It is because I really was drugged and brainwashed by the government for knowing things I was not suppose to know. My former wife accused me of being schizophrenic and wanted me to get help. I think this movie is part of a conspiracy to cover up the fact people really are drugged and experimented on by the government and the government wants the public to think these people who claimed to have been experimented on with mind control are actually suffering from various brain disorders. But when they really are out to silence you it makes you paranoid. This movie was very informative. I had no idea so many respected Ivy league colleges and Universities were involved in the type of work portrayed in the move.

Movie Review: An Inspiring Film
Summary: 5 Stars

I first saw this film in a packed cinema and I was encouraged by the response at the end from the audience. They remained in their seats riveted not moving for a considerable period of time and were obviously moved by what they had seen. So many Hollywood films portray schizophrenia incorrectly and those who suffer from this terrible disease as scary, violent, and often not redeeming people. Finally, audiences were able to see a film that accurately depicted this tragedy in a man of considerable intellect.

This movie was a breath of fresh air from the likes of Me, Myself and Irene with its perpetuation of the schizophrenia stereotypes.

I saw a similar reaction by an audience at the end of the film Cutting For Stone when it appeared at the Montreal Film Festival a few years ago. This was the story of a young teen developing schizophrenia who did not do as well as John Nash. What it did show was a more typical example and the two films together paint a realistic image of the disease and its impact.

Liebesträume

I have heard of John Forbes Nash for some time, but I never fully realized what this great man has accomplished in his life. Besides being a true mathmatical genius, he has managed to "set aside" one of the most horrible mental illnesses known to man -- schizophrenia -- and do his outstanding work! I find his amazing abilities to see patterns in math, etc. no less than mind-boggling, as well as the fact that he has been granted, at overwhelming odds, the honor of one of the most prestigious awards that can be bestowed upon a man or woman! It is almost beyond comprehension. I more than enjoyed this movie and the superb acting by all the stars. I intend to buy my own copy of this splendid movie, and I also want to know more about this great man.
