Movie Reviews of 9 1/2 Weeks

Movie Review: Nine 1/2 Inch Nails
Summary: 5 Stars

Laughably self-indulgent (heck, maybe that's the point), 9 1/2 WEEKS is actually so bad it isn't even so bad it's good. Mickey Rourke's character stands around (and sits, and stands around some more), leering and smirking a lot like a young, superbadass Bruce Willis; Kim Basinger's character ups the stupidity quotient just a little too high for the Smirker's good. At least she wises up and leaves the guy in the end: the only surprise is that it took her so long to get to that point. Oh well, the film had to end somehow. Talk about vicarious thrills. Disturbing? Yeah, right. Titillating? Uh, no. Erotic? Hardly. Innovative? So was sliced bread, and bread takes longer to stale than this turgid turkey. If I've ruined the ending for you, consider yourself lucky. Rent the sequel and get what you think you deserve.

Movie Review: There was sex in this film?
Summary: 5 Stars

Ok, I know that's a silly question. If you didn't catch the tongue-in-cheek, here it is, spelled out for you. Sure, it's erotic. Sure, it's exciting. What most people miss is the intense imagery. As an artist, some of my tastes are a little too eclectic for some folks, but this has been one of my favorite movies for years and years. Few people catch the "fish" metaphors. In the beginning, she's buying sushi in Chinatown. When she starts to doubt the relationship, she visits Farnworth, surveying his dead fish, telling her "It's the moment the thing is so familiar..." and toward the end she gets ill at the party...on the fish. There are so many more subtle, masterful, intense images. You just gotta look past the sex.

Movie Review: S E X Y MIND GAME!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the best movie EVER for both Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger!

Ok if you want to look at it as a hot sexually sadistic movie, that's one way to look at it. But how about combining this with a mind game movie?

Haven't you seen how an independent successful woman (Elizabeth) Kim Basinger lose it all? Haven't you seen how (John)Mickey Rourke take control? Oh this is a game of power. Two wandering hearts fill in love, two erotic souls heat up the air and two minds playing a game!

But who is to win?!! Two wounded hearts, two shattered souls and one DOMINANT MIND!

It makes you shiver as (...) counts you'll be back before I count to ...!

Oh and the sound track of the movie is PERFECT!

Movie Review: Smoking Hot!
Summary: 5 Stars

I had always heard about this movie, but had never seen it until recently.
All I can say is Wow! Erotic, passionate, thrilling, sexy. It did not dissapoint my husband and I. I recommend it for adult couples who want to be teased and intrigued. Mickey Rourke is both sexy and scary and fascinating. You do not know what his intentions are, whether he is going to hurt Kim, or Kill her or just make love to her! And Kim Basinger is so adorable, vulnerable, sexy and amazing.
The refrigerator scene is my favorite. I dont recommend you watch this with children under the age of 18. Its too STEAMY!
I recommend Adults add this one to their DVD collection and watch the sparks fly!

Movie Review: A work of art
Summary: 5 Stars

[Another] reviewer... missed the entire point of this movie, more than I've ever seen before!

He calls it a "smutty film about a bad sexual relationship" which it is not. He says it is "an above-average erotic film", and it's not even "erotic". It is, but that's secondary.

He says "Rourke is just honing his scumbag, bad-boy persona; but it doesn't overwhelm." He is perfect for the role and he missed the whole point of the characters pyschological state.

I'm not even going to indulge this reviewer by explaining the movie to him. It's not too hard to grasp but he sure missed it.

One of the rare works of art to come out of Hollywood.
