Movie Reviews of 9 1/2 WeeksMovie Review: 9 1/2 weeks Summary: 5 Stars
Almost a hundred of 9 1/2 weeks have passed since this movie has become my favorite of all. It still is. It's 9 and a half weeks that John's relationship lasts with the most attractive Elizabeth. It's 9 and a half weeks of a true love experience Elizabeth and John have but it's Elizabeth who feels that true love as for John and his show off Wall Street man personality all this seems to be a true game. He plays up with Elizabeth's feelings up to the moment when he loses her forever and sadly it is then that John realises how much he really loved her too. It's definitely not a porn movie, and if it includes erotic scenes so what? Don't we all make love that way when we are in love as badly as John and Elizabeth are? But people as people they always tend to see bad things before the good ones and in this movie there is not one single bad thing (it's just people have to say something different from others) excluding John's silly games with the love of his life. Absolutely a must have movie.
Movie Review: 9 1/2 WEEKS - WHOA!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I love this film. I have both the Rated and Unrated versions since I originally bought it on VHS and recently on DVD. For me this was the best thing Mickey Rourke ever did and is an extremely erotic film. Definitely, an adults only film. This is a very intense and obsessive love/sex relationship. Unfortunately, the two parties finally get too far apart in what they deem as acceptable behavior as the approach to the relationship becomes sick. As a result, the love affair ends abruptly. When the relationship does end, you wish it could have continued. It gets that kind of grip on you even though it becomes very offensive to the young woman involved. This couple is never really able to communicate anything to each other, other than sexually. They seem to have great fun with each other in the beginning and of course fantastic sex. Frankly, I'm not sure why I like this movie so much because it's very sad also. I think it's well worth viewing and the price is right.
Movie Review: all time favorite movie Summary: 5 Stars
I first watched this movie in high school & I think it changed my life. I would walk in downtown Seattle hoping to meet my very own Mickey Rourke. I became dreamy and romantic, expecting that this was what adult love was all about. So, here I am 10+ years later thankfully realizing that life is not really portrayed in movies! While this movie was packed full of juicy sex, I consider it to be very romantic too. John's painful heartbreak in the last scene gives us evidence of this. What woman did not fall hopelessly in love with Mickey Rourke after this movie? And if you aren't a fan of romance, the movie offers us a feast for the senses. Every scene is visually explosive & the soundtrack is incredible! To this very day, any time I hear "Slave to Love", "You Can Leave Your Hat On", or any other song from this movie, it conjures up the very scene it was played. I think I am going to watch the movie right now...
Movie Review: Basinger is hot; best of the bunch; fine film, she's is fine Summary: 5 Stars
This unrated edition of the movie version of the novel features the absolutely fine Kim Basinger; who can act, as well as look "hot". She's one of the very few women who can move to the song "You Can Leave Your Hat On" and sizzle. In fact, she can be sexier, with a facial expression, than some women can with their entire body. What a body! She's a fine actress, talented and beautiful. God Bless the woman. If the novel is anything like the film, and she brings the Elizabeth character to life. Mickey Rourke is good too, and very lucky to have played opposite her and Carrie Otis (who's also fine in Wild Orchid), even if he's a bit of a "rough" dude. A kind of less than respectful movie (as I'm sure women would see it) but hey, it's a "guys" movie. I'm sure somewhere there's a movie for women that would provoke the same reaction from them. If not, there will be. Give us boys a break, Ok?
Movie Review: A 1980's masterpiece and a must-see for any film fan Summary: 5 Stars
This definitely doesn't belong in the Romance or Drama category. It is worthy of a Steamy, Deviant Sexual Attraction genre all of its own. Basinger and Rourke toy with a fine line between pleasure and pain, and I kept expecting the games to go too far, to turn deadly, and that keeps the viewer and Basinger (as the submissive) on edge throughout the sexually deviant games. The balance of power between the two lovers slowly shifts throughout the movie, making for edge-of-your-seat viewing and a surprising ending.
This is a movie that breaks many taboos, not just fun naughty ones, but deep-seated cultural ones. There are some unforgettable scenes (don't miss the striptease scene, which is amazing two decades later!) and a great soundtrack. The apartments epitomize 1980's "modern" décor. 9 ½ weeks is a must-see for any film fan.
