Movie Reviews of 84 Charing Cross RoadMovie Review: Great Acting, Great Story Summary: 5 Stars
Certainly a "must have" for Ann Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins fans. A wonderful job of bringing the correspondence format of the book to the screen. I was quite disappointed however to find that 1/3 of the cinematographer's efforts have been electronically clipped off each side of the picture in the DVD version. To add to the insult, the result is called "full screen." I certainly wouldn't buy a condensed version of the book and cannot understand why anyone would want an "edited for TV version of a great movie.
Movie Review: 84 charing cross road revisited . . . Summary: 5 Stars
i saw this movie when it was first released more than 20 years ago. remembering that even then i thought it was a sublime yet poignant movie that in my teens left me appreciative of small movies with understated budgets and big acting!
saw it again recently. left me with the same feeling of warmth and bliss.
purchasing a copy if only because if i am still breathing 20 years from now, i know i can count on this movie to bring me back to that special place and time.
Movie Review: Saw it again and had to buy it. Summary: 5 Stars
I had recalled seeing this film in the theater years ago, but couldn't remember much about it. I decided to try it again and was so impressed that I bought it immediately. They don't make many like it anymore and that is too bad. Great characters, a good range of emotion, and nice depictions of time and place make this film extremely enjoyable. Whether you are a bibliophile or not, give "84 Charing Cross Road" a real try.
Movie Review: Book Lover's Dream Summary: 5 Stars
84 Charing Cross Road is a delight. If you are a book lover, it is a dream come true, revealing our intense emotional ties to every aspect of books and reading. Beautifully rendered performances by Anthony Hopkins and Anne Bancroft tug at your heart every time you view this soft, sentimental and pleasant movie. Viewing this movie will become a ritual you will want to share and cannot live without.
Movie Review: A Must See Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of my all-time favorite movies. Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins are superb together. The dialogue is fabulous, the acting genuine, not contrived. Somehow in this computer, e-mail age we've gotten away from the meaning of a hand-written letter, of communicating thru books and each other. This movie is a peek into the lives and minds of a generation ago who felt those things mattered.
