Movie Reviews of 30 Rock: Season OneMovie Review: Brilliance ...and only the first season?! Summary: 5 Stars
Tina Fey has done a wonderful job as Liz Lemon in her first season of '30 Rock.' Bringing her experience from SNL shows here as the lines per minute ratio is quite high (a standard still used in sitcoms today). Alec Baldwin was nominated for many awards as the tough and overly conservative boss, Jack Donaghey. And of course, the wacky Tracy Morgan seemingly plays himself. Of course, there are other notable characters and scenes, but the most shining aspect of this show is that you will laugh out loud A LOT and yet some jokes need a second viewing because of the smart writing.
The DVD is a bit on the lackluster side, very straight forward with a few commentaries (Alec Baldwin's was so scarce that it was almost laughable in of itself). But, again, the show is outstanding enough in its own regard.
Oh, and it won the outstanding comedy emmy. So... why is nobody watching this again?
Movie Review: Five Star Humor Summary: 5 Stars
This show is amazing! The humor is five stars. It has humor at all different levels and different types so there is something for everyone to catch and have a laugh at. I'll catch an obscure reference to the "Moscow Cat Circus" (which I actually saw and thus spit my soda out laughing at!), my husband will laugh at some Star Wars type joke that I'll need explained to me, and we'll both be in stitches over just about everything else.
Tina Fey is brilliant and multi-talented. Can't get enough of her. Add to that Tracy Morgan and Alec Baldwin, plus the other goofy characters that work at 30 Rock and you have a recipe for success.
Unfortunately, 30 Rock aired last season at a time that I had to record it to watch it, so I missed a bunch of episodes. I'm pre-ordering the DVD and cannot wait for Season 2.
Movie Review: Could be the funniest show EVER! Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered 30 Rock's First season after getting hooked on the second season. I do not consider myself a sitcom watcher, I stick more with hour long shows, but this is by far the funniest shows on TV. Tina Fey writes a wonderfully zany show. Alec Baldwin as her boss and Jack McBrayer as an overly eager page who "Loves television so much" are the funniest characters aside from Fey's Liz Lemon, the creator of the fictional TGS. Liz's facial expressions in response the the insanity around her are worth the price of admission. In addtion to the terrific cast the string of guest stars that make appearances are put to great use. Who doesn't want to see Isabella Rosselini B****slap Tina Fey?! I hope more people start to appreciate the humor and cleverness of the show and tune in so the show stays on for many seasons to come.
Movie Review: 5 STARS per episode x 21 = 100+!! Tina Fey is a genius Summary: 5 Stars
Okay..
I think TV stinks. A good friend of mine kept trying to get me to watch this show and I just wasn't interested. For some reason I picked up this set and in a matter of a few days blasted through the whole season. This is ridiculously funny AND intelligent stuff. I am absolutely stunned that the lead actress , Tina Fey, is also the creator AND the writer!! If you don't know just how insane that is....all I can say is its humbling to witness such an incredible talent. If your IQ reaches triple digits you will LOVE this show. Like all great sitcoms and this IS great...it operates on several levels and has multiple story lines working that all integrate perfectly. The acting is wonderful as the cast was assembled well and I must add that Alec Baldwin is just so funny its shocking.
Movie Review: Great, smart show - but $32+??? Summary: 5 Stars
This show only got better and better after a shaky start, incl. tepid reviews of Tina Fey's acting. But she found her feet and the ensemble cast (including Alec Baldwin - who knew he could play funny?, Tracy Morgan - finally breaking out from SNL second-string status to be a real standout, and Jack McBrayer - the real sleeper of the bunch, as Kenneth, the NBC page), and the show's writers, made for one very smart, funny season.
I have to question, though, why this is going to be priced so high? Is NBC trying to make up for lost ad revenue from its year in the ratings cellar at the expense of the loyal viewers it had? Too bad - I'll have to wait for the price to come down, but at least this show will be worth the wait.
