Movie Reviews of 30 Rock: Season 2Movie Review: great! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a really fun show! Tracy is totally random and I am a little in love with Jack!
Movie Review: Its a good show. Summary: 4 Stars
30 Rock has become a very popular show on the NBC Network. Many of the shows catch phases can now be hear in everyday sentences, I heard someone use the phrase "Shark farts" at Wal-mart . One reason that the show has become so popular is because they reference many different current events. 30 Rock's witting writing and great cast have caused it to influence our culture.
The episode Seinfeldvision in one of my favorites because of its guest star Jerry Seinfeld. In this episode Jack uses Jerry Seinfeld's image with out his permission. Seinfeld goes to 30 Rock to confront Jack and stop him from putting him in all of their programs. It was nice to a new side to Liz in this episode as well. Liz is usually content to be single or just date, which is fine, but here you get to see that she does want to settle down and get married. The one major problem I had with this episode was Liz making Kenneth, Tracey's "Office wife." I thought that it was taking the joke just a little to far and did not add much to the story line.
Will Arnett, who is one of the stars of Arrested Development, guest stars in this episode, Jack gets in the game. Jack must try and prove that he is still fit to Run GE after having a heart attack. I personally didn't like this episode as much as some of the others in this season. One of the main redemptive parts of this episode is when Tracy and his wife get back together even though Tracy still doesn't seem like a great husband. I just wish that TV fathers/husbands would be more responsible. It makes the dumb dad stereotype seem like it is okay and that there is nothing wrong with it but then it glorifies it and men then fall into the same pattern.
Jack is up for a promotion in GE so he hires a private eye to look into his past to see if anything could prevent him from getting his new job. You might expect some big secret like a murder or something just as bad but what he finds is a cookie jar collections. Jack must decide if he wants to keep his collection or give it up so that he might progress in his carer or keep his treasured possession. I thought that this was funny but it was also very sad. I don't think that we should have to hide who we are so that we can be accepted or get a head in life. It seems as though we shouldn't have to sacrifice something we love so that we can get a head.
Rosemary's Baby was a funny episode which guest stared Carrie Fisher. I thought Fisher was a good guest star because several times in previous episodes Liz dresses up as Princess Leah and makes quite a few Star Wars references. While there were many funny parts to this episode it was just really crude. I do think that it has a good point to the story. Fisher plays a writer that Liz had looked up to for many years. As Liz gets to spend time with Fisher she starts to realize that she might not have been the best role model. I think it makes a good point about how we have to carefully choose who are role models are and how we need to make sure that we have a right perspective of who they are.
Movie Review: "Me want food!" Summary: 4 Stars
Season 2 of "30 Rock" was perhaps even stronger than Season 1. For me, the biggest improvement was a move away from having Liz (Tina Fey) fixed up with a man each week; instead, she has a few brief flings, notably with two exes from Season 1 - lawyer Floyd (Jason Sudeikis) and low-brow Dennis (Dean Winter). The show aso did a nice job of giving less screen time to some of the less funny characters, particular Pete the producer (Scott Adsit) and Judah (Judah Friedlander).
A number of funny plot arcs were developed over the season. Jenna (Jane Krakowski) gains weight because of her role in the musical version of "Mystic Pizza," which apparently involved eating a lot of said pizza. At first, she's desperate to lose the weight, contacting Dr. Spaceman and discussing drastic measures; however, she ends up embracing the weight when it makes her popular on the show and gives her a new catchphrase - "Me want food!" Jack (Alec Baldwin) spends much of the season sucking up to Don Geiss (Rip Torn), the CEO of GE who is in the process of naming a successor. This plot also introduces a new rival for Jack - Devon Banks (Will Arnett) - who's willing to do anything to get ahead, including marrying Don Geiss' intellectually challenged daughter.
These are just some of the subplots that keep "30 Rock" clicking during season 2. The season is also chock full of guest stars, some of whom do some of their best work in years, particularly Carrie Fisher as a desperate comedy writer. The show really found its pacing and tone during this season. On a negative note, some of the characters became increasingly silly, especially Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan), and some of the episodes are almost surrealistic, but "30 Rock" never was a show grounded in reality anyway. Overall, the season was a great success and the show was awarded Emmy's for Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor (Alec Baldwin) and Lead Actress (Tina Fey) in a Comedy Series. Tina Fey also won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.
Movie Review: Not quite perfect...yet Summary: 4 Stars
This is an almost perfect comedy series. ALMOST.The writing is excellent, the ideas are good and Tina Fey is really excellent in the role of LIz Lemon, head comedy writer at NBC. However, and this was the case in the first season, the secondary characters are somewhat unrdeal and often unnerving and tend to distract from what could have been perfect. Teke the page Kenneth, he tends to be very often way too geeky for the good of the series. Also Alec Bladwin's character is way over the top and somewhat unrealistic (OK, it is a comedy series) but he has improved over Season 1. The problem is that Tina Fey plays the whole thing in a reaslistic comedy kind of way and the secondary characters are way too charicatural and unrealistic IMHO for it to gel completely. However overall it has improved over Season 1 and has a lot of promise fro the future.
Movie Review: HOPE for extras on this SHORT season Summary: 4 Stars
This is the best show on television today. I hope they do a bit better with the extras and commentary that last season's dvd set. Although there is commentary by Baldwin, Fey and Morgan on season one, they are all separate and this leads to some painful, awkward silence by the commentators.
Also because of the writer's strike there were only 15 episodes this season as opposed to the usual 22, so I'm hoping there is some time/effort put into the extras.
I'm still buying this day one. It is the funniest, smartest comedy on today, and honestly my favorite show in years. Also seeing Tina Fey eat a whole sandwich in one take is worth the $30.
